God's Flimsy Umbrella from Hell |
We have become an unbelieving nation intent on fulfilling our own desires
and lusts. The umbrella of God's protection has been removed with the
result of evil taking over. Darkness is returning to the face of the deep
and we have become empty and void.
Well, that is certainly edifying and enlightening. The umbrella
of God's protection has been removed, because we have been
so bad. Bad, bad, us.
Maybe it is one of those umbrellas that always inverts when a
slight wind catches it, because it was cheaply made.
When has there ever been a time or place in human history,
when there has ever been much of a "protective umbrella"?
During the Black Plague, the Inquisition, the 100 Years War,
the War of 1812, the Death March of Bataan, the freezing
Pilgrims, the mudslides, earthquakes, hurricanes, famines,
epidemics, cancers, car accidents, plane crashes, train
wrecks, tsunamis?
We never lost an Eden, because there never was an Eden.
The only umbrella of protection that we have ever had,
or will ever have, against the *random* misfortune of an apathetic
universe is the goddess, Lady Luck.
Well, maybe one other leaky umbrella- the protective
layer of illusion that sugar-coats all random misfortune-
religion.
That umbrella isn't very big, or very effective, because usually
there is room only for people of the same religion. It usually
ends up creating more misfortune than it protects against.

But we felt bad when we were three and stole that cookie, and mommy
spanked us. Therefore, when I am unhappy now, I have been bad, and some
Daddy in the Sky is *angry.
Look at the golden age of the USA: genocide! Slavery! Surgery without
anaesthesia, or hygiene! No inherited property for widows! But at least
everybody was a Christian, or said they were. Obviously we are
deteriorating. Why, folks are now talking about letting queers marry.
Let's bring back the days when my great-great-great uncle could rape
his slaves and then deny his children, 'cause they were colored.
Kermit,
Who hasn't gone to church in 35 years, and doesn't miss it.
