God's poll numbers high - U.S. adults' belief in God overwhelming
NEW YORK (Catholic Online) - An overwhelming majority of American
adults believe in God and feel that its political candidates should be
believers, according to a nationwide poll released just before the
beginning of Holy Week.
A poll commissioned by the New York-based newsmagazine Newsweek,
conducted March 28 - 29 and released March 31, revealed that 91
percent of U.S. adults responded "yes" to the question "Do you believe
in God?" and only 3 percent described themselves as atheists.
The poll of 1,004 adults aged 18 and older, conducted by Princeton
Survey Research Associates International based in Princeton, N.J., and
Washington, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage
points.
Roman Catholics made up 21 percent of those polled, the same
percentage as non-evangelical Protestants and less than the 35 percent
of Evangelicals. Christians made up 82 percent of those surveyed,
while 2 percent were Jewish, 1 percent was Muslim and 10 percent were
agnostic, atheist or professed no religion.
The Newsweek poll showed Americans split on the influence of religion
on American politics and the impact of that influence, and on
acceptance of the theory of evolution.
Thirty-two percent of respondents said that religion has too much
influence in American politics, though 31 percent said it has too
little and 29 percent said its current level of influence is
appropriate. Similarly divided, on the question of whether that
influence has increased in recent years, 36 percent said "yes," while
23 percent indicated it has decreased and 37 percent noting it has
"stayed about the same."
Nearly half - 48 percent - of the public rejects the scientific theory
of evolution, seeing "God created humans pretty much in the present
form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so. Forty-three
percent see that the "origin and development of human beings ...
developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life,"
either by God guiding the process - 30 percent of those polled - or
without God having any role - 13 percent.
Among Catholics, 53 percent believe in the theory of evolution (42
percent in a God-guided process and 11 percent without God's
involvement) and 41 percent seeing mankind as created in its present
form without an evolutionary process.
The poll results indicated that about half of those questioned - 49
percent - "personally know" an atheist and see the United States as
"more accepting" of atheism - 47 percent, with 9 percent saying "less
accepting" and 38 percent seeing it as about the same. More than two
in three - 68 percent - agreed with the statement that "someone can be
a moral person and be an atheist."
The Newsweek poll suggested that a profession of faith in God and
political office are connected, as respondents by 62 to 29 percent
saying they would not vote for a political candidate who says he or
she is an atheist.
The poll also indicated that two-thirds (66 percent) of adult
Americans are "dissatisfied with the way things are going in the
United States," while only 28 percent were satisfied, and by 60 - 33
percent disapproved of the way U.S. President "George W. Bush is
handling his job as president."
The Princeton Survey Research was founded in 1989. It s clients
include: the Pew Research Center, the Henry J. Kaiser Family
Foundation, the Annenberg Public Policy Center, Newsweek magazine, NBC
News, the World Bank and the Knight-Ridder newspapers.

NEW YORK (Catholic Online) - An overwhelming majority of American

Next they will be believing all of our ³leaders² should drink special
Kool Aid. It always surprises me the extent to which people are
willing to have incompetent and ignorant government.

You should see The Easter Bunny's poll numbers amongst four year olds, IBen.
They're off the charts!
While we're on the subject of polls, enjoy these:
"As you may know, President Bush has said he will veto a bill to

Should: 31%

Not Unsure: 5%
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, J/Auric:

So what does that have to do with people believing in God???
I don't attend church either, in fact I don't like a lot of the
churches today. However, I do believe in God and that will not change
no matter how much you don't like it.
Please show me the connection in attending church and belief in God.
By the way, your source came up as an error. Ah, what the heck...you
don't deserve it but I'll help you regardless.

I'm sure you can google and find probably 20 different reports. Now,
tell us which report is actually correct.
I'll wait for you to show me the connection in believing in God and
Church attendance.

beginning of Holy Week.

And yet less than 20% of Americans attend church, and that number is
falling:

By the way, your source came up as an error.

another blatant lie. it works perfectly and is displayed on my screen
at this very moment.

To illustrate your ignorance.
I didn't lie. The link did NOT work on my end, and unless you can
prove that it did..your claim that I lied is a lie itself.

Did you ever bother to go back to it later? I just viewed it less than five
minutes ago - with Firefox 2.0.0.8.

The _complete_ link failed for me, as well, with a couple of tries,
both on IExploiter and Mozilla FireFox; I kept getting an "error"
page. I've been unable to load it, but I'm sure it's just something
with Knology that will resolve soon.

You're just becoming nothing more than an annoying troll.

Yet you keep whining at him, Cop Fraud. Why is that?

Will you ever grow up?

Did it ever occur to you that maybe your employers might have blocked it? (Or
else, that the site may have been down for whatever reason when you tried to
access it?) Your behavior in this incidence indicates that you're just trying
to get your way, like the emotional three-year-old you've been since
approximately 1968.

I tried the _complete_ link a couple of times this morning, using
Firefox and I.E. - still completely unsuccessful with both. I'm sure
it's something on Knology (or on the site's end), and that it'll all
resolve soon.

Evidently, as at 14:22 CDT, it's showing up as it should using Firefox.

God's poll numbers high - U.S. adults' belief in God overwhelming

NEW YORK (Catholic Online) - An overwhelming majority of American
adults believe in God and feel that its political candidates should be
believers, according to a nationwide poll released just before the
beginning of Holy Week.

And yet less than 20% of Americans attend church, and that number is
falling:

So what does that have to do with people believing in God???

Did you read the article? I couldn't - because it didn't load on *my*
end. ;-))

It didn't load on my end, but according to your buddy Keegan...it loaded on
his end and you're a liar for saying it didn't load.
Don't ask me, it's his rule..he called me a liar for saying I got an error.
You got one too..so you're a liar too in Keegan's eyes. Go argue with him
about it.
