Object: Golden opportunity for Atheism to greatly help/impress the people by showing two very-well-ignored BIG financial histories
First:
Meaningful comparing of U.S. dollar amounts from quite different times
is done on the basis of consumer purchasing power -- because the
purchasing power of the U.S. dollar has shrunk greatly over time.
STOCKS
This is from The Wall Street Journal of 3/30/99 (the Dow has been
'forever' the most-quoted U.S. stock market price indicator):

Updated in chart at the start of
http://homepage.mac.com/ttsmyf
The evident 'severe roller-coaster on 3.5 decade timescale' is
overwhelmingly relevant to the people, but is kept well-out-of-sight:
a massive and grotesque deception by omission, = intellectual
dishonesty.
For perhaps further clarity, see here the difference:

HOMES
This is from The New York Times of 8/27/06:

An updated chart is here

TOGETHER
"Real Dow & Real Homes & Personal Saving"
http://homepage.mac.com/ttsmyf/RD_RJShomes_PSav.html
SO!
These two real (i.e., inflation-corrected) asset price histories show
a lot of up THEN down, and both are currently FAR above historical
trend. Simple, basic financial histories are kept well-out-of-sight:
remember 'the public?s right to know'?! Obviously, these real
histories are extremely relevant to people's estimating/guessing the
future!
But, 'well-ignored' is the status quo because:
the 'middlemen' make more $ from bubbles,
and the 'middlemen' & their funded by paid advertising news media are
the info. providers!
COMMON GOOD:
Financial asset mispricing, effect on the common good:
equal and opposite effects on buyer and seller, net = zero;
equal and opposite effects on all the asset-holders together and on
all the asset-non-holders together, net = zero;
rational pricing is better for the common good than is irrational
pricing because rationality is more likely to be there tomorrow than
is irrationality -- giving 'a more stable environment for all of us to
plan our lives' (Shiller).
