A man cannot become President until an age when his character is
firmly set and unlikely to change -- it's in the Constitution.

I never realized that it was unconstitutional for Presidents to learn
from experience.

"Learn from experience" or "flip-flopping?" Which is it?

Flip-flopping is what its called when positions change arbitrarily
according to what sounds good politically without actually having
learned anything.
Learning from experience actually requires experience.

So, the "Kerry flip-flopping" claim that the Right did was inaccurate?
I agree.
By the way, "flip-flopping" does *not* mean "to change arbitrarily
according to what sounds good politically without actually having
learned anything." To suggest that it does is disingenuous to the point
of lying.
A "flip-flop" is simply a sudden change of policy; a decision to reverse
an earlier decision. The 21st Amendment to the Constitution is a
"flip-flop." It's a reversal of an earlier decision (18th Amendment).

No, it makes the distinction between flipping because it sounds good to

I never realized that it was unconstitutional for Presidents to learn
from experience.

Knowledge and character are different and unrelated things.
Bush demonstrated at least one of the character traits of a dictator --
hostility to free speech -- in 1999.
In 2000 he demonstrated another dictatorial character trait --
hostility to fair and free elections -- when he sued to prevent ballots
from being recounted in a close race. And his administration has
been pushing voting technologies that allow election results to be
rigged undetectably.
This is the government that is nibbling away privacy and basic freedoms
with Homeland Severity as its excuse. This is the government that
has given itself the power to force libraries to reveal who borrowed
which books, and to forbid the libraries from revealing to anybody
else that this has been done to them.
Bush had the heart of a dictator in 1999 and 2000, and things going
on today show that he still does. Any American who isn't scared
shitless about the type of man they have running/ruining their country
is a sleepwalker.

Or, just maybe, for once in your life, you used a smidgen of logic.
You know as well as I do that there aren't any more recent examples, in
spite of the *HUGE* number of parodies and other assorted lampoons. Bush
seems to have realized that complaining about it only encourages it.

I can predict the content of at least 50% of your posts, so according to
your standards I must be a pretty logical guy.

I don't know if he gave up on the War on Satire because he got into the
White House and didn't feel threatened anymore, or if it's because of the
fact that he ignores the media. I doubt it's because of a sudden respect
for free speech.

"Google Groups" is not USENET. The government cannot shut down USENET
due to its decentralization of resources. Same with the Internet. The
government could shut down access to the Internet or USENET, but the
Internet and USENET will continue.
