GOP Congressman: Jews Should Have Christianity Shoved Down Their Throats |
GOP vision of America- subservient Jews ready to be converted to
Christianity
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/2/21/13431/0328
The end of this exchange left us, the Jewish delegation, in shock.
Speaker Bosma, defending the prayer issue, asked, "How many Jews are
there in Indiana? About 2%? There are at least 80% Christians in
Indiana." The implication of this statement was that our minority
community doesn't and shouldn't have any say or any voice. It is about
the majority and what the majority wants. The jaws of the delegation
dropped to the floor. We were speechless.

Where have they been hiding? They should have just checked "Don't understand

They were probably "hiding" in school, and learning about the
Constitution and its guarantees of equality for all, and the
protections that it offers to minorities, especially in the areas of
speech and religion.
And just so you know, not all Hoosiers are not as stupid as this
particular state Rep. I was born and raised in Indiana, and I know
this for a fact. We just have a few idiots that happen to have big
mouths and give the rest of the state a poor reputation.
Unfortunately, too many of them get elected.

responsible for them being elected.)

It is
about
the majority and what the majority wants. The jaws of the delegation
dropped to the floor. We were speechless.
Where have they been hiding? They should have just checked "Don't
understand
constitutional democracy" off a list.
Mark Sebree (and I usually vote against people like this, so I am not
responsible for them being elected.)
So you don't believe in democracy - you believe that in some
circumstances
the tail should wag the dog?
Ah I get it, the 98% of the German should have a say over how to
dispose the 2% Jews!
But you didn't answer the question. Should laws be based upon morality or
majority?
How about basing them on the fucking constitution.

Ahhh.. so we are basically ruled by an oligarchy. Frankly I don't know where
you're coming from, because all this means is that we're ruled by a
democracy of 9 voters.
What you also fail to grasp is that when the Constitution was formed, the
powers given to the Federal governement were small and enumerated. As I
said, you can read whatever you want into a document. (Hundreds of thousands
of private contracual disputes run through our courts every year.) When the
first amendment was passed, it was not intended to eliminate religion from
government - it was merely to keep the feds out of it. They left all that
for the states to decide.
" The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor
prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or
to the people. "
So all this crying to the federal government to protect our rights is all a
bunch of baloney anyway (unless one is denied "equal protection of the
laws", which came much later).
Wouldn't you rather have 50 states with 50 governments? Then you could test
them all out and pick the one that suits you best.

I do believe in democracy. However, unlike you, I also believe in the
Constitution, the law, and equality. And the First Amendment of the
Constitution states that the government will not endorse or support any
religion over any other. ALL religions will be treated the same, no
matter how many adherents they have. Therefore, a government official
cannot show any support or favoritism or disfavoritism for any
particular religion while performing his or her duties. The official's
PRIVATE life and beliefs are not affected, however.
Christian, Jewish, Hindi, Asturan, Satanism, American Shamanic,
Islamic, and every other belief is to be treated equally under the law,
with none of them getting any breaks or favoritism just because they
happen to be more or less popular than the others. That includes the
Speaker of the House not favoring one religion over another by having a
prayer only to that one religion to the exclusion of others within the
House chambers.
Perhaps you just do not respect the law, and believe that your beliefs
should have precedence over every one else's and over the law as well.

I don't believe in democracy, so you've mischaracterized me.
You say you believe in the constitution. That's like Charles Manson

You say you believe in equality, but what does that mean? Tall people should

anything about religion.
ALL religions will be treated the same, no

Absolutely wrong. All religions will not be treated at all. Religon will be
invisible to the state. They will make no law. What does that mean to you?
To me, it means they will make no law.
Therefore, a government official
cannot show any support or favoritism or disfavoritism for any
particular religion while performing his or her duties.
So you want all government employees to be atheists - beautiful. Sorry bub,
but that's not what it means. It merely means that the government as a
lawmaker, will stay away from religion - it will not eradicate it - it will
let it go anywhere it wants freely because the government has no power over
it.

Somehow, that does not surprise me. And I do not see how I have
mischaracterized you, since you just said that you don't believe in the
Constitution, the law, or equality.
I just do not believe in the tyranny of the majority, which the
Constitution helps to protect against.
You say you believe in the constitution. That's like Charles Manson
believing in the Bible - just make it mean whatever you want.
Not really. It means what it says, and it means what the courts have
interpreted it to mean, with the literal statements taking precedence.
You say you believe in equality, but what does that mean? Tall people should
have their legs cut? Small people should be stretched? Any time you see
inequity you can call the cops? I think you guys are dangerous, and 1000
times more like Nazis than any conservatives who want freedom.
The trouble is, conservatives like you don't want freedom. You want
tyranny, like the Nazis.
Equality means that everyone has the same rights, and the same access
to those rights and services. It means that no one group is elevated
above another. It means that the minority is not silenced or
marginalized just because they are a minority.
And the First Amendment of the
Constitution states that the government will not endorse or support any
religion over any other.
There you go. Already you've paraphrased.
So are you. I just did not think I would have to quote the
Constitution to you. Apparently, I gave you too much credit on that
count.
The first amendment said that
Congress will make no law - no law - hands off - not our job - don't ask us
anything about religion.
The exact quote is "Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
...." It also means that no law may promote any religion, nor may the
government promote or favor any religion.
ALL religions will be treated the same, no
matter how many adherents they have.
Absolutely wrong.
Not at all. Not according to the law, the courts, and the
Constitution.
All religions will not be treated at all.
Yes, they will be. No favoritism given to any religion.
Religon will be
invisible to the state. They will make no law. What does that mean to you?
To me, it means they will make no law.
However, you have no power, and not much knowledge. The Constitution
says that it will make no law respecting the establishment of any
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise of any religion. There is
nothing that says that religion must be invisible to the government,
only that they are treated equally and their practices are not
prohibited just because they are religious practices that other
religions do not like.
The government has plenty of laws about religions. That is why their
lands are not taxed. There are laws in the tax codes that specifically
exempt them from pay taxes. That is also why they are prohibited from
taking a formal stance on political candidates and parties, just as all
organizations, religious or secular, that come under the same tax laws
are. The tax laws also state that contributions to religious
organizations are charitable contributions, and thus tax deductible.
If there were not any laws regarding religious organizations, most
could not afford their own property. They would lose everything to
property taxes and corporate income taxes. The exemptions that they
have makes it easier from them to continue to practice, and thus
promotes the free exercise of religion by making as many religions,
beliefs, and denominations available as possible in an area.
Therefore, a government official
cannot show any support or favoritism or disfavoritism for any
particular religion while performing his or her duties.
So you want all government employees to be atheists - beautiful.
On the job, they are required to be. In their private lives, it does
not matter. Any by the way, I am summarizing court precedence on the
matter.
Sorry bub, but that's not what it means.
It is according to the courts. And I will take the opinions of experts
over an ignorant person any day. And you are no expert.
It merely means that the government as a
lawmaker, will stay away from religion - it will not eradicate it - it will
let it go anywhere it wants freely because the government has no power over
it.
It can go almost anywhere EXCEPT into the law making process. It
cannot be used as a reason, especially a sole reason, for any law,
especially if that law promotes their beliefs and/or hinders or
interferes with another's beliefs. This is the basis for the Lemon
Test, which is the colloquial name for a test that the court can apply
to see if a law is Constitutional or unconstitutional on the basis of
religion. The name comes from a USSC case in 1973.
It also cannot go where it is not welcome by others. It cannot force
itself onto people's lives.
Perhaps you just do not respect the law, and believe that your beliefs
should have precedence over every one else's and over the law as well.
I merely asked you a simple question. Why can't you answer it without all
the false accusations?
BAM
I have not made any false accusations. I explained the truth simply
and fairly completely, and I addressed you in a manner commensurate
with your posts and what you have stated in the past. You have little

Like I said. Tyranny. Anarchism is not actually possible for very
long for the human species. We are a social animal, so we seek to
gather in groups. And once a group is formed, leaders and some form of
government is put into place to maintain order. And it is usually the
strongest that creates and maintains order, and rules through strength
and intimidation. And thus, a tyranny.
Equality means that everyone has the same rights, and the same access
to those rights and services. It means that no one group is elevated
above another. It means that the minority is not silenced or
marginalized just because they are a minority.
Which means it means nothing except looking at the guy next to you, envying

Sorry, but there is no reason to make laws to allow you to mug him.
That is assault, and that has been against the law for millennium. The
only people that are usually free to use force are agents of the
government.
Apparently, you cannot understand what my statements mean, or what
equality actually is.

*****.
No.
It says no such thing.
Actually, yes it does. And the courts agree with that.
That's just your way of getting the camel's
nose under the tent and eliminate religion everywhere the government trods.
Nope. You must have missed the part about prohibiting the free
exercise of religion. The government is forbidden by the Constitution
from eliminating religion. It prevents the government from favoring
any religion or passing laws that favor one set of beliefs over
another.
ALL religions will be treated the same, no
matter how many adherents they have.
Absolutely wrong.
Not at all. Not according to the law, the courts, and the

Not at all.

no laws and we'll make no prohibitions. Can't you read?
Better than you, it would seem. And, unlike you, I also understand and
comprehend what I read.
Right. I see your game you punk.
Unlikely. Especially given your subsequent statements. You see
nothing but yourself.
You shout for equality as if that's
something good.
It is.
If everyone's rights were taken away we'd all be equal, and
no one could complain.
And if everyone has the same rights and they are numerous, then we are
all equal. And people will still complain because that is a right
guaranteed to them.
Unlike you, I actually know something about the law and history. If
nobody has any rights, which is true in a despotic tyranny, then people
still complain. They just do so with people that they hope that they
can trust. It is not shouted into the open as it is within a free
society like this one.
You want to construct a society that conforms with your worldview.
Yes. Not that you understand that world view, as you constantly
demonstrate. You do not understand the concepts of freedom and
equality.
I want people to be free - you don't.
Actually, I do want people free. You want to create a tyranny, because
you do not understand that is what happens when you get rid of all
government. Anarchy is inherently unstable, and people group together
for protection, and thus form governments to preserve what order they
can and protect themselves, or to subjugate and oppress the people they
have conquered. And thus, tyranny.
You're the Nazi.
No where close. I support freedom, liberty, justice, and equality, all
of which are anathema to a Nazi mindset.
You're the one who wants to
put people in handcuffs.
No, that would be you. I want to get rid of the handcuffs.
Religon will be
invisible to the state. They will make no law. What does that mean to
you?
To me, it means they will make no law.
However, you have no power, and not much knowledge. The Constitution
says that it will make no law respecting the establishment of any
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise of any religion.
Right. The meaning is clear - hands off.
Close. The meaning is nobody gets the "upper hand" and is treated
better or worse than everyone else. It also protects the people from a
religious organization that gets too powerful and overbearing and "full
of itself" by providing a brake and limits to what the organization can
do.
There is
nothing that says that religion must be invisible to the government,
only that they are treated equally and their practices are not
prohibited just because they are religious practices that other
religions do not like.
No.
Yes.
*****.
No, child. You shall continue to be exposed to the truth, even if you
do not like it.
It doesn't mean "they are treated equally" you punk.
Actually, child, yes it does.
It means they can do whatever they want wherever they want.
Not quite. They cannot interfere with the right of people to worship
as they wish, or not at all. They cannot force others to follow their
dictates. They cannot get the government to pass laws that favor them
and their beliefs over the beliefs of "non-believers". And they have
to follow laws that apply to all religions, all citizens, and all
501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. For example, a religious group
cannot kidnap a young woman off the street and then offer her up to
their deity in a sacrificial rite, even though that is dictated by
their religious scriptures. The woman's rights have priority over
theirs, since they are trying to force her to observe their beliefs in
contravention of her own. Not to mention both kidnapping and murder is
illegal under nearly any circumstance.
The government has plenty of laws about religions. That is why their
lands are not taxed.
Not just religions - all non profit organizations are tax exempt.
However, churches are AUTOMATICALLY made non-profit by law. Virtually
all other organizations must apply for non-profit status and submit
quite a bit of paperwork before they are recognized as a non-profit
organization.
http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=122670,00.html
http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=123067,00.html
"Exceptions to Application Requirement
The following organizations are excepted from the exemption application
requirement:
Churches, their integrated auxiliaries, and conventions or associations
of churches; ... "
A law that treats all religious organizations equally, and favors
religious organizations specifically. They don't have to apply for
non-profit status. Other organizations do. And this is straight from
the IRS website, if you care to notice.
That is also why they are prohibited from
taking a formal stance on political candidates and parties, just as all
organizations, religious or secular, that come under the same tax laws
are. The tax laws also state that contributions to religious
organizations are charitable contributions, and thus tax deductible.
Get me the law on that one - that says religions cannot promote political
candidates - Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would love to see that one!
Jesse Jackson has run for president. There is nothing that prevents
that. That is an individual's right, provided that he or she was born
in the USA and is over 35 years old. (See Article I of the
Constitution for full details) And there are non-profit organizations
that can promote political candidates. That is what Political Action
Committees are. They are just a different classification of non-profit
from a church.
There is also nothing that prevents a religious organization from
speaking out on issues. They can talk about the war in Iraq, abortion,
homosexuality, the homeless, the economy all they want. They just
cannot say to vote for this party or this candidate, especially when
they ignore the other candidates or not tell the entire story about
their positions on an issue.
What's more, I am sure that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton all ready
know about the law. Unlike you, they are intelligent enough to study
the law and understand what the limits are.
Besides, there is nothing that prevents them from speaking for or
against a candidate as individuals. They do not lose that right just
because they are tied with a major political activist body or religious
organization. They just cannot promote or speak against a candidate or
party as head of a 501(c)(3) organization.
And, straight from the IRS website:
http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=120703,00.html
(about half way down, under the heading of "Political Campaign
Activity")
"Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations
are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in,
or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in
opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions
to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or
written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in
opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the
prohibition against political campaign activity. "
Admittedly, this is the explanation of the law rather than the law
verbatim, but since this is from THE authoritative source on the
matter, and is meant for the layman, it should be sufficient. It
distills a complex series of laws into a form that people of at least
average intelligence can follow and understand.

Although I tend to agree with the basic gist of what you're saying

It had effectively no government for a number of years, and
re-established anarchy a number of times by essentially ignoring
