Object: GOP: Grand Old Propagannon
Okay, to recap. Jeff Gannon, the fake name of a fake reporter, is a
shill created by the GOP so they can lob softball questions at the
White House Press conference in the name of "unbiased media".
The fact the JD Guckert aka Jeff Gannon owns gay porn sites such as
Hotmilitarystud.com, Militaryescorts.com and Militaryescortsm4m.com,
is of course just your average garden variety GOP hypocrisy.

Well, neocons are nihilists who do not believe "morality" is anything but
a way of keeping the peasants in line, the elite is exempt. In their way
of thinking, Gannon wasn't "immoral" nor even "hypocritical." Just
embarrassing because he was caught and by the *help no less. Those grubby
little peasants have too much time on their hands obviously. We need to
depress wages further and increase their work week another ten hours or so.
(I seriously cannot believe the man was *so stupid as to register all his
domains under any single name. I can't help but be darkly amused at how
our new, self-appointed "elite" is just not very *bright.)

You have a problem with gays or gay porno sites? What exactly is your

count as shilling to the "moral values crowd".

No I have a problem with hypocrits who say they are anti-homosexual
just to get support, hiring people to spread propaganda who profit
from illegal homosexual prostitution.

What exactly is your

Nope, that he was hired by a republican group to ask shill questions
so the president didn't have to answer questions from real reporters.

but a way of keeping the peasants in line, the elite is exempt. In
their way of thinking, Gannon wasn't "immoral" nor even
"hypocritical." Just embarrassing because he was caught and by the
*help no less. Those grubby little peasants have too much time on
their hands obviously. We need to depress wages further and increase
their work week another ten hours or so.

You have a problem with gays or gay porno sites? What exactly is your
problem with this guy? That he asked a question at a news conference?

That he spouted obvious propaganda in his questions? That he received
classified documents to leak from the White House? That he used a
false name?
Anyway, you're not a dumb *****, you know this is politically damaging
to reps. Which is why the most should be made of it.
Now, I keep hearing talk that plenty of Washington's rep elite is
closeted. There's a project, right there.

No self-respecting reporter would, no need to talk about democrat or

in the White House's media strategy, like so many paid GOP shills
out there.
Either way, he's a minor guy working for a marginal wingnut webzine.

So what's the big deal?

That he gets a press pass three days after starting on his new job,
after two-odd days of media training? That he regularly attended press

I don't see that it's a big deal.

You don't see the big deal about an male escort with two days of media
training by a Republican institution, working on his third day for a
marginal wingnut website established by an old-time Texas Republican
getting a press card to the White House on a fake name, and then
keeping on getting them?
Tell you what: there are now only two ways this thing can take. Either
the White House is knowingly involved, or they blindly accepted what
Eberle (the rep. operative behind Talon) sent them, 'cause he's one of
the good old boys or something. The second thing would be a show of
incompetence almost on par with the Kerik nomination, the first thing
far more damaging still.

Apparantly the whole upset is over the
fact that he accurately quoted some Democrats, which I realize is a high
crime of the first order.

He did not accurately quote Reid. Reid never said nuthin' about people
waiting in soup lines. Gannon got that line directly from a Limbaugh
rant, where it was a characterisation, and then represented it as a
direct quote. Limbaugh himself stated as much. Then Gannon followed up
by asking the prez. how he was to reach out to people so disconnected
from reality as the dems. You think this conforms to journalistic
standards?
What triggered interest, perhaps, is that this coincided with a major
personal attack on Reid in the right-wing echo chamber. And with the
rhetoric on social security. But it's no longer about that. It's about
what appears to be a White House plant sitting among the press. Fits
into a pattern, with the recent exposure of Williams an all.
(snip)

Anyway, you're not a dumb *****, you know this is politically
damaging to reps. Which is why the most should be made of it.

It just makes the dems look petty.

Yeah, just like all the crowing about that bugged office back in the

At least *that* story turned out to have some facts behind it.

Those facts had to be dug up from a secretive White House. Without
pushing the story, it's not certain where it would have gone. So keep
pushing this, I'd say.

The story had already been published when Gannon/Guckert wrote about it.

The Plame thing, yeah. There is no direct evidence, but there is
reason to suspect. That's just one thread that needs to be followed.
And if the Gannon line ends up nowhere there, the case was there
before and will be there afterwards. But if a direct connection can be
found that would of course be a <g> slam-dunk.
Another is the question to what extent Gannon is a plant and how deep
the relationship is between the White House/GOP leadership and several
propaganda operations set up by Republican operatives.

Now, I keep hearing talk that plenty of Washington's rep elite is
closeted. There's a project, right there.

So much for the right to privacy.

Who needs justification? Dems should be sick and tired of thinking
'but would this be ethical' and just take the line that if it's legal
and damages the Republicans, do it. Become happy warriors.

I'm not proposing
trespassing, planting bugs, or hiding in the bushes with a camera
(well, not around the person's property anyway), just outing
high-level officials and public figures. You know, pick up chatter,
interview people, that sort of thing. See what comes up. Sure it's
'not done', but it can be very effective.

In other words, use innuendo and namecalling when the facts won't do.

Use the truth, is all.

Assuming that you know the truth. All you know right now is that there
is a lot of innuendo and namecalling going on.

There is a potential for backfire if you spread rumours without
evidence. Though Rove doesn't appear to have suffered from that sort
of thing. Still, I advocate a higher standard. Acquiring certainty is
small trouble before you start busting open closets.

Gannon/Guckert is nowhere near as serious as the Eason Jordan / CNN
flapdoodle, but nobody here seems to want to comment on *THAT* one.

Jordan's stupid quote seems to have been given in by a personal
commitment. Besides, he lost his job, which is a bit more serious a
consequence than the same thing happening to Guckert ('cause Guckert
was not in a position of power). At any rate, the Gannon thing will be
much bigger if a substantial relation to the White House can be
established.

would *ever* do?

No self-respecting reporter would, no need to talk about democrat
or republican there. Gannon is no reporter, though. Just a willing
pawn in the White House's media strategy, like so many paid GOP
shills out there.

Either way, he's a minor guy working for a marginal wingnut
webzine.

So what's the big deal?

That he gets a press pass three days after starting on his new job,
after two-odd days of media training? That he regularly attended
press conferences? Wouldn't strike you as funny, of course.

I don't see that it's a big deal.

You don't see the big deal about an male escort with two days of media
training by a Republican institution, working on his third day for a
marginal wingnut website established by an old-time Texas Republican
getting a press card to the White House on a fake name, and then
keeping on getting them?

No, I don't, and I don't really see why you do, except that you *wish*
you could make it into a scandal of some notable proportions. It's a
tempest in a teapot. Democrat bloggers making a *BIG* deal out of some
little "scandal".

Three: it all just disappears when the media realizes that there isn't
really any story there and they're too afraid to just make one up.

Apparantly the whole upset is over the
fact that he accurately quoted some Democrats, which I realize is a
high crime of the first order.

You think this conforms to journalistic
standards?

Yep, it's right up there with some of the "questions" that Democrat
partisan "reporters" have asked.

Once again, big deal.

(snip)

Anyway, you're not a dumb *****, you know this is politically
damaging to reps. Which is why the most should be made of it.

It just makes the dems look petty.

Yeah, just like all the crowing about that bugged office back in
the '70s, ey?

At least *that* story turned out to have some facts behind it.

Those facts had to be dug up from a secretive White House. Without
pushing the story, it's not certain where it would have gone. So
keep pushing this, I'd say.

The story had already been published when Gannon/Guckert wrote about
it.

Big Ho-Hum Yawn. It's a few lefty bloggers trying to "strike back" after
the right wingers took down some big players like Rather and Jordan. And
all they could come up with is a bit player like Gannon.

Now, I keep hearing talk that plenty of Washington's rep elite
is closeted. There's a project, right there.

So much for the right to privacy.

You have no right to keep your secrets secret.

That's what *Privacy* means. Duh.

Legally, I mean. As far as the non-legal colloquial right to privacy
goes, sure, we can make some exceptions. It's not as if Republicans
have ever had scruples about anything.

Oh, well, that justifies your own lack of scruples, doesn't it?

It isn't Gannon that was the find - it was who let him in and set him

It's not like the Democrats find their own stooges too, like the GI who
asked the "Humvee Armor" question so that his partisan media pal could
blow the answer out of context. Rummy even had to take Russert down a
peg or two on Meet the Press about that one.

Not that you and the party of the neo-cons ever care how corrupt your
