Object: GOP memo calls Schiavo "a great political issue"
March 20, 2005
Congress Steps In on Schiavo Case
Lawmakers to Pass Bill to Resume Feeding, Allow Court Review
By Mike Allen and Manuel Roig-Franzia
Washington Post Staff Writers
.... House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.), who pushed Congress to
consider the legislation, said "We should investigate every avenue
before we take the life of a living human being."
Republicans acknowledged that the intervention was a departure from
their usual support for states' rights. But they said their views about
the sanctity life trumped their views about federalism.
Republican leaders believe their attention to the Terri Schiavo issue
could pay dividends with Christian conservatives whose support they
covet in the 2006 midterm elections, according to a GOP memo intended
to be seen only by senators.
An unsigned one-page memo, distributed to Republican senators by party
leaders, called the debate over Schiavo legislation "a great political
issue" that would appeal to the party's base, or core, supporters. The
memo singled out Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), who is up for reelection
next year and is potentially vulnerable in a state President Bush won
last year.
"This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited
that the Senate is debating this important issue," said the memo, which
was reported by ABC News and later given to The Washington Post. "This
is a great political issue, because Senator Nelson of Florida has
already refused to become a cosponsor and this is a tough issue for
Democrats."

Death penalty capital of the country, isn't it?
Their state legislature and governor Chimp stiff-armed re-opening death-
penalty cases that might have let some innocent men walk free, hand-waving
the matter aside with a "the system's not perfect, but it's what we've got"
attitude...
But this sack of ***** wants to get involved in what's basically a matter
for doctors in Florida.

You're right. I can see the adverts in the next campaign : "Would you
vote for X, someone who helped kill innocent Terri Schiavo against the
wishes of her grieving parents?". Add weepy music and cute photos and
portray the husband as Lucifer.

I think this is a GREAT political issue for the left instead of the
right, as the American Taliban think. The Schiavo case illustrates
very well the mixing of Christian Fundamentalists and the Republican
party, and the harm that that mix is causing to our personal freedoms.
People are starting to see this harm, particularly those that value
personal freedom and the ability to terminate their own lives in the
case of living wills.
Frankly, the USA has turned into a theocracy instead of a democracy,
this case telling of that fact. Most americans, even those who are
republican, will not stand for this.

Then they can sit down, as short of a full-blown revolution there's
nothing that can be done about it. And, no, I'm not suggesting
revolt.

I AM suggesting a revolt if this country continues to move toward a
christian theocracy. It would be the only thing to keep people in this
country free. I would be our duty as Americans to do so.

I wouldn't suggest that here. If you feel that you
absolutely must, use an anonymous remailer of some sort.
Perhaps I'm too paranoid, but we are living in the time of
the Patriot Act, and a country run by a bunch of people that
seem to feel that inconvenient restraints on their power
should just be ignored.

Based on the Founding Fathers, yes that would be our duty. I have no
objection to your suggesting a revolt. I was flat stating I wasn't
suggesting a revolt.

Jefferson certainly thought so. Someting about watering the

Of ourse, it would be much nicer if we could just march Bush

QUOTATION: The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with
the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure.

Yes, but the treasonous ones are controlling the country.

On 20 Mar 2005, MrPepper11 dropped trou, farted, whirled, then shouted:

Republicans acknowledged that the intervention was a departure from
their usual support for states' rights. But they said their views about
the sanctity life trumped their views about federalism.

The sanctity of life. Do you know where the phrase, "the sanctity of
life" came from? We made it up. You know why? 'Cause we're alive. Self
interest. Living people have a strong interest in promoting the idea that
somehow life is sacred. You don't see Abbott and Costello running around
talking about this *****, do you? We're not hearing a whole lot from
Mussolini on the subject. What's the latest from JFK? Not a *****
thing. 'Cause JFK, Mussolini, and Abbott and Costello are fucking
dead....and dead people give less than a ***** about the sanctity of life.
