I can think of a hopeful explanation for why the $100 Republican
gasoline rebate flopped worse than Bob Dole without Viagra: The
American people are waking up. They're hip to the GOP gyp. They're on
to the neocons. They're fed up with the shifty shenanigans and
Abramoff earmarks. They're waking up to the Republican Culture of
Corruption, the oily ease with which fat-cat lobbyists stroll
unopposed through gold trimmed halls of power, while the working
classes that pay the lawmakers salaries and vote them into office are
left standing in the cinder block waiting room undergoing a body
cavity check. Yes, it looks like the American people, all of them, are
getting jiggy with it. Gas prices got everyone's attention.
Republicans are practically twitching in electrified panic, and now is
the time for Democrats to jolt them into a tongue severing, full-blown
grand mal seizure with a political taser applied to their most
delicate, vulnerable region--and crank the voltage to maximum.
This is the time for leadership, now is the time to reach out to those
Americans, regardless of their prior affiliation, who are paying
through the pump for the vacation homes of the GOP and the city-state
mansions of Republican corporate sugar daddies. All we need now is a
proposal, something simple, which provides real relief, and puts the
Republicans somewhere between royally screwed and beaten to a pulp. I
haven't thought this through, but nevertheless, here's a kernel of an
idea.
1. Eliminate or significantly reduce the Federal Gas Tax for a few
months contingent on...
2. Make up the revenue shortfall by ending the billions in oil company
giveaways, reversing the Bush tax cuts on any taxable income above
200K a year.
3. You wanna play real hard ball? Throw in a "CEO/Executive Exorbitant
compensation tax" ...
I asked a dozen friends and neighbors how'd they react to this general
idea. That admittedly small sample included conservatives and
progressives, the politically astute and those who thought Tom DeLay
was voted off of American Idol last week. About the only thing they
had in common was each of them work for a living. The responses ranged
from "Oh Hell yeah!" to "F*cking-A!" Even a staunch GOP voting
general-contractor named Bubba, who makes a tad more than 200 grand a
year, liked the idea, noting that he would more than make up for any
tax loss by lowered cost of gasoline, which happens to be adversely
affecting his formerly healthy bottom line.

a) I didn't lie. What I had done was underestimated your stupidity and
thinking that you would know that you can relate combat duty to a
variety of units in the military, 436th MAW being one of them.
b) I served and was discharged honorably. You never served, and you use
