Former vice-president and global warming guru Al Gore Jr. received more than
$500,000 in royalties from the owners of zinc mines, according to a report
on Tennessean.com. The mine owners held mineral leases on Gore's farm near
Carthage, Tenn. Before being shut down in 2003, the mines emitted thousands
of pounds of toxic substances.

Let's see what's in that report on Tennessean.com. Here's the first
paragraph:
"CARTHAGE, Tenn. - Al Gore has profited from zinc mining
that has released millions of pounds of potentially toxic
substances near his farmstead, but there is no evidence
the mine has caused serious damage to the environment
in the area or threatened the health of his neighbors."

By all means, don't take my word on it. Take the lunatic
Reich-wing owned (Brent Bozwell's) "Media Research Center's
word on it.
#1. Al Gore's father -- not all Gore -- made the lease
agreement. Al Gore could SELL the land, or SELL the lease,
but that wouldn't & couldn't effect the mining.
#2. The mine itself has a good record. The mining company,
on the other hand, back at their processing plant, is a
different story. But if we are to blame Al Gore for what the
mining company did after it took ore OFF his land, shouldn't
we also blame gun manufacturers & dealers for what any of
their guns used in a crime? Should we blame alcohol makers
& retailers for every drunk driving incident? Shouldn't we
lock up the makers of Sudafed for all those illegal drug labs
that used their product?
#3. What does mining have to do with Global Warming? Al Gore's
issue is Global Warming. Unless you want to claim that, without
the mining, there would be a lot less Global Warming, you
can't exactly pretend Gore is being hypocritical.
Al Gore never said we should stop making money, go back to
living like humans did in the stone age.
Anyways, if Al Gore doesn't scare you, how come you idiots
have to lie about him so much?

Mineral leases are by and large granted ages ago in the cases of mines. My own property
has mineral rights leased out by a previous owner for which I recieve royalties but
which I have no control over; I cannot suspend or break the lease, the lease
transferred with the property when I purchased it.
