Great Idea from Gary Bohn |
I have ***** judgement, but it seems to me that Gary Bohn's idea of how
to react to proposals to teach creationism in schools could accomplish
much more than the patient common sense and logic of people like
Richard Dawkins.
Campaign to have the Norse reation myths included in the proposals to
teach the biblical creation myth. This can only lead to a public
argument about which one is truer, and when it is presented to a
propor academic community, the whole idea will be scrapped as silly.

An excellent idea. I've often thought about similarly challenging many of
the religious display controversies by asking how people would feel if
Satanists were allowed to priminently display a pentagraph next to one of
their natvity displays. They say that they're OK with *all* religions
having equal access, so how could they object?

Yep, excellent ideas, but nobody ever follows through.

This shows far too much bias towards Norse culture. We also need to
campaign for:
* Phan Ku the Chinese creator of the earth who emerged from an egg and
created mountains and valleys with a chisel.
* The Icelandic epic myth Prose Edda where bright heat met snow & ice
resultng in life.
* The vast blue god Wulabri of the Krachi people of west Africa.

I like the Iroquois story about the woman from the land in the sky that
was going to give birth to twins, and one saw light coming from one
direction (so he was born normally) and the other one saw light in the
other direction and decided to try coming out that way, but it didn't
work and he wound up being born out of her armpit.

According to the notes in the original BBC scripts, Slartibartfast was

I've always felt like there was something about Slartibartfast's name
that I was missing. Especially the part where Arthur does a double take
and Slartibartfast just says "never mind" or some such. Is there a joke
that I don't get?
