Greedy Christians rip-off greedy Christian idiots. |
An American evangelist who defrauded New Zealand investors out of $8.5
million has been sentenced to six years' jail.
Passing sentence in the Auckland District Court yesterday, Judge Roderick
Joyce, QC, said it was a large-scale, cynical and flagrant scam which left
at least 154 people out of pocket.
Minister, preacher and motivational speaker Donald Eugene Allen, 58, was
convicted with Murray Christie, 46, Dianne Ruth Christie, 44, and Stuart
Alfred Buckland, 60, of conspiring to defraud investors with false promises
of returns of up to 15 per cent a month, equal to 431 per cent a year.
