wow....what friction these days. The christianites getting mighty
defensive. I wonder if the last days of zeus or isis were like this?
Throughout human history there have always been people who didn't buy into
whatever belief system was in 'fad' at that current time. I'm sure there
were debates concerning every deity possible all the time, throughout time.
How many people do you ever hear debating about osiris these days? I
think their security blankets are being dissolved and we are witnessing
temper tantrums as a result. The infiltration into our education systems
are desperate measures to keep the weave of the 'bankie' from unraveling at
the seems. The old saying is correct...'ignorance is bliss'.
It's ok to be wrong people, that's how we learn and gain knowledge.
However, those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat the
mistakes.

I've wondered if this might be the case but I'm still not sure. It's a
heartening thought, and it would explain their sense of panic. Why
would Christians be so violently opposed to the opinions of others all
of a sudden? They've always whined about persecution, but they've been
very aggressive in attacking other people's rights in recent years.
They've also become a lot more political and a lot more extreme.
There has obviously been a concerted effort to get as many of their
people into powerful positions in the Republican party and local govt
as they can. It is tempting to assume that they are trying to grab as
much power as they can just to make it difficult for the saner people
to wrest it from them legally. I have a nasty, sneaking suspicion that
they actually believe they can take over the USA though, and gain
complete control over all branches of Government and legal system.
They've certainly made an impressive start.
Let's hope you're right and that my cynicism is misplaced. I have
visions of the US economy collapsing and it disappearing back into the
dark ages.

Once upon a time in alt.atheism, dear sweet DaveJr
(davesbrain@qwest.net) made the light shine upon us with this:

The scant amount of network television I watch usually involves what I
can't miss while passing a TV with a vegged out family member poised in
front of it. I couldn't miss a scene from one of those new doctor shows
tonight, where a rather secular asian doctor was getting lip from a tall
black "spiritual" doctor, who was complaining about one of his colleagues
comparing his spirituality to belief in Santa Claus. Dang, where have I
heard that line before?
