Guantanamo inmates to lose all rights
US law proposal attacked by campaigners
Human rights campaigners are calling it the 'November surprise' - a
last-minute amendment smuggled into a Pentagon finance bill in the US Senate
last Thursday.
Its effects are likely to be devastating: the permanent removal of almost
all legal rights from 'war on terror' detainees at Guantanamo Bay and every
other similar US facility on foreign or American soil.

Nonetheless, we go to war for moral reasons. And we sustain our
wars through moral suasion. You cannot do that if you descend to the
barbarism of the enemy and that is what we have done. America is
supposed to be *better* than the enemy we fight. We're supposed to be
the shining city on the hill, and we cannot be that with blood in our
basements.
Looking at the reports as they're slowly leaking out, it has
become clear that we're not even using torture to get valuable
information: torture inevitably becomes an instutition in its own right,
with its own interests, and it always descends to merely breaking the
will of the tortured. We have never gotten useful information out of
torture, and we never will. The victims merely tell us what we want to
hear.
If you want to live in a country where your freedom is bought at
the price of your soul, you can be as complacent as you want. Nations,
no less that individuals, live or die in the shadow of Mark 8:36.

No, but countries do. And soldiers do the same, at least
voluntary ones do. Conscientious soldiers join the military not for a
paycheck and a college education but because they have decided that
their nation, and its leaders, have the moral weight and the moral
authority necessary to justify their stepping up and into harms' way.
I don't want to live in your country, J.C., where there is no
morality but brute force, and where soldiers are idiots who step up for
no reason other than they're too stupid to do otherwise. I live in the
United States of America, which is a better place.

Our constitution does not describe "rights" for our enemies or anyone

else

that seeks to destroy us. After all, it was preceeded by those
wonderful words "We the people of the United States", not "We the
people of the

United

States and anyone else wondering around out in the world".

Of course, before stripping inmates of rights (which have been well
established in internation treaties), it would behoove the US to show
some evidence that these people are indeed guilty of *anything
(besides of being arrested).

No, war is little different. At least it was for me.

So you are saying that war justifies ill treatment of prisoners. You ever
hear of the Geneva convention. If the boot is on the other foot you can't
then turn around and complain if the other side carries out the same
practices.

You guys that play
the intellectual warfare games with its great danger of maybe a paper

As long as you are not in harms way yourself, I take it?

Your argument here is that the other side are behaving as barbarians then
we should too. Such a strategy didn't do the Romans any good IIRC the
barbarians ended up sacking their capital. It is much better to retain the
moral high ground. In the long run it weakens the grass roots support for
the terrorists.

Looks like what you know works isn't working too well. We started off with
a country ruled by a goverment that was anathema to the moslem fundies and
kept them suppressed. The fanatics are now in that country openly
recruiting and carrying out their barbarous activities, a country which is
now fractured on religious sect lines as well as ethnic. The US are now
stuck with it. If they leave, the place will blow up big time and Saddam's
rule will look like a picnic.
The only good news is that the Al Quaida have now shot themselves in the

just alienated a large number of their sympathisers.

That's the beauty of it! People that have propensity to terrorism will
eventually take up their weapons. It's a hell of a lot better to make them
show their intent sooner than to let them lull you to sleep and hit you
then. that's what I mean by telling you theorists that you need some real
world experience and street smarts. That's what America meant when it said
"we will smoke them out". Wise kids, this ain't flag football as the man
said.
And here's another thing. You guys with the cute little monikers and the
phony email addresses, most intelligent Americans don't give you the
credibility they would give a dead pigeon. For all we know you are an
AlQaeda or Taliban or some other terrorists organizations operative. You
don't mean diddly ***** unless you have enough courage to stand in the light
of day and make your speeches. The way you guys are hiding behind masks is
exactly what the terrorists do. In my book, that makes you either one of
them or one of their operatives.

You need disarming, then. Fast. There's nothing beautiful about
terrorism, even when you do it.
Least of all when you do it, on a scale of bad through evil. Your mind
is seething with excuses to use your smelly little gun, to the point
where you conjure up the "what would terrorists do?" psalm of spam as
your guiding catechism. Well, ***** you.
| And here's another thing. You guys with the cute little monikers and
the
| phony email addresses, most intelligent Americans don't give you the
| credibility they would give a dead pigeon. For all we know you are an
| AlQaeda or Taliban or some other terrorists organizations operative.
You
| don't mean diddly ***** unless you have enough courage to stand in the
light
| of day and make your speeches
You're projecting, terrorist. My speech patterns are consistent round
the clock wherever I am and whomever I talk to. I'm under no legal
obligation to treat you nice because you wave guns around at people who
are within their rights. I've been shot at before. I'm still alive,
though. More so than you'll ever be.
Unlike you, I don't do business with terrorists; I don't adopt the
logic of terror, because there isn't any to adopt; I don't find you
amusing and I won't pull any punches if your threats go any further.
I advocate punishment for those who spread violence, double for those
who do it for profit. Mental hospital for those who do it by "reason"
of irrational theocratic beliefs. Automatic lifelong gun ban for the
mentally unstable . . . That means you.
You may not like what I have to say. But, terrorist - read my lips:
You threaten the use of weapons in context with the suppression of
ideas which a less unstable felon than yourself would either read and
learn from - or not read. And let it go at that.
Supposedly, it was a free world until you loons decided it was up for
eminent domain. Even on your own terms, you are part of what is
dragging the mess which your retarded spiritual guidance counsellors in
the White House inherited, all the way from there to the seamiest part
of mental Texas. From which there is no turning back once you go
there.
Don't email me. Don't even *think* about stalking me or your movement
will be minus another nut.

Guantanamo inmates to lose all rights

Why were these vermin ever afforded any "rights" in the first
place?

If the boot is on the other foot you can't
then turn around and complain if the other side carries out the same
practices.

You guys that play
the intellectual warfare games with its great danger of maybe a paper
cut or two can do all the theorizing. Me, I'll just keep my faith in our
sons and daughters that are dodging the bullets.

As long as you are not in harms way yourself, I take it?

I can't answer a question that I'm not aware of the facts behind it. I
didn't know they, or us for that matter, claimed the "right" you say they
do. And, I sure would like to see you call me a coward face to face. My

It's a hypothetical question. You openly suppor the "right" of the Bush
administration to kidnap citizens of other nations from their countries, and
to hold them indefinitely without trial or charges.
So answer the question, coward - would you support other countries assuming
that same "right" with regard to AMERICAN citizens?
"Yes" or "no", coward.

And, I sure would like to see you call me a coward face to face.

I'd love to be close enough to call you a coward to your face - then I could
spit in it, too.

My email is real. Why don't you get in touch with me and let's see if you

So's mine, cowardly douchebag.

No, I don't support the Bush administration in very much

But you have defended here the current practice of rendition, and the
holding of foreign nationals indefiniteley, without charges or trial.
Are you denying that?
