Happy 4th of July, Americans, Happy Day to Everyone Else! |
Dear alt.atheism,
To me, the 4th of July has always been a fun holiday for me. Barbecues,
parades, music, and the day ending with bright colorful explosions in
the sky.
It is also a time for me to reflect on the United States. Where we
were, where we are, and where we're going. You see, I take my love for
the United States very, VERY seriously. I believe the US to be a great
nation, but not the best, because "best" denotes a superiority complex.
I do not feel superior to anyone else.
The US has its share of problems, but it has its share of good things
going for it, too.
Over my short 27 years on this planet, I've been through five
presidents. All of them feel what they did moved the country forward.
While I do not currently agree with the majority of the current
president's stance on issues, the United States is more than George W.
Bush and company.
It is John Q. Public. It is the man working two jobs to make ends meet.
It is the woman who sends her unruly child to bed without supper. It
is the man who treats the little league he's coaching to ice cream after
the game. It is the woman who, after a tough day at the office, relaxes
in front of the television to watch Conan O'Brien.
They are what America is all about.
This 4th of July, I am going to do something I've never done in the
past. I am going to ignore the political pugilism online. All it does,
at least to me, is to cause illwill towards who would I would otherwise
consider to be friends.
To those who post idiotic statements such as "It's all the repubadubs
fault!" or "It's all those libruls in the media!" I say to you, grow up.
This is the real world. If you do not like the current state of
affairs, do something about it. Arguing on USENET, on mailing lists, or
on blogs will net you absolutely zilch in the real world.
For me, this is a great country with a host of problems. Problems that
I will vie to help solve.
I am sure that this missive will not stop any political posts to
alt.atheism, but they will no longer come from me. I will continue to
post atheism related messages and, sometimes, they may cross the bounds
into politics, but only if they're related to atheism in some way.
So, with that, I wish all residents of the United States a happy July
4th. To everyone else, have a great day!
Oh, and deities don't exist.

Dear alt.atheism,
snip
So, with that, I wish all residents of the United States a happy July 4th.
To everyone else, have a great day!
Thanks! I've already done three loads of laundry, cleaned the kitchen and
the bathrooms, am getting ready to vacuum the house, and then I'm moving
onto weeding the front yard. The husband and witchling are out of the house
as their choice was "either help me or get the hell out". Guess which
choice they took?
So, I'm not feeling incredibly "independent" today ;)
Oh, and deities don't exist.
Ah yes, that too ;)

Not to quibble, but, to me, the Constitution is what America is
all about. You'll find wonderful, hard-working people all over the
globe; it's the Constitution that makes us special.
So, with that, I wish all residents of the United States a happy
July 4th. To everyone else, have a great day!
Amen!
Oh, and deities don't exist.
Thank God for small favors!
Cheers,

I say it's time to burn the f*g constitution which is now an official tool
of the aristocracy, a warlord network of regencies being created in
nostalgia for the Dark Ages.

Agreed. The Constitution, however, was made by the people and for the
people. :-) The Constitution was inferred above... I hope. Was I
beting too subtle?

Your constitution is no longer a protection. Burn it.
