Object: Hard Choices
We live in an age of hard choices. Many, for example, are
implacably opposed to abortion, calling it murder of the unborn. Others
feel just as strongly that women have authority over their own bodies
and should decide such a matter for themselves. Many view
homosexuality, adultery, and premarital sex as rank immorality. Others
believe these practices are a matter of personal choice. Who is to say
who is right and who is wrong? If you are an adept of atheism, there
are no such things as morals, all fish in the same aquarium trying to
survive.

Please remove groups where this subject is off-topic such as the aquarium
(fish keepers) groups.
Thanks.......

The number of responses shows there is a concern.
I believe most of the arguments against deism is the box of
Christianity or some other established religion.
When I first discovered "Intelligent Design" I didn't realize that
Christianity was involved. I thought such thoughts as "Irreducible
Complexity" made sense.
If one forgets the dogmas and focuses on the question, Intelligence or
accident, I think it is easier to evaluate.
I come to the conclusion their is Intelligence guiding creation.
So, the next question, "Is the Intelligence 'moral'?" If so what
evidence do we have? What if we are guinia pigs for the Intelligence?
Or are we like a "reality" show? Is there a script or a game with the
Intelligence watching passively or actively pushing our buttons?
There are much more interesting questions to consider once one gets
out of the dogma box.

Describe morality

A code of conduct which is dictated by a superior force.
I like the question. If the Intelligence is an observer and wants to
see if life forms a moarlity code, we have one life, if the
Intelligence has handed down a moral code we have a different life.
The argument can be circular. For instance I can claim that any act
that includes concern for another life other than one's own is brought
about by compassion or empathy, extending what is good for me to what
is good for you thus stating a moral code. But, then we have to
consider how the feelings of compassion and empathy "evolved." One
problem with "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
morality is the difficulty when you like chocolate and it gives me
hives.
There are so many questions.
Is there Intelligence guiding the universe?
If not, how did the universe come to exist and where does it exist?
Does it have a beginning. What survival value does love (not sex) or
beauty have. How did they evolve.
However, if one accepts the notion of Intelligent Design, the
questions become different and to me more interesting. What motivates
the Intelligence? From the answer flows "morality."
I wish there was a group dedicated to exploring such questions. I do
not want to do battle with established dogmas. Christians, Moslems,
Hindus, etc. answer a need of their followers. Not having a better
answer, I find no argument with beliefs. A flat world or a sun
circling the earth served the believers of the era. However I am not
satisfied with the answers from any established religions.
I want dialogue, not debate. What forum is available?

Please remove all unrelated Newsgroups as Zircon aka Jabriol is using the
cross-post technique to destroy and disrupt these groups. Don't be his
unwitting helper.
He's not the least bit interested in the subject at hand and is not really
interested in what you have to say.
Thanks! :-)

Once upon a time in alt.atheism, dear sweet FlashPoint (Xabriol@gmail.com)
made the light shine upon us with this:

Many view
homosexuality, adultery, and premarital sex as rank immorality.

And many religious people view suicide bombing as the highest moral ranking
on the planet, so who's to say?

Atheists get to live their lives in accordance with their own desires. I
call that a win, compared to the collossal waste of time being an active
Christian. Atheist: win. Christian: lose. "No win" never comes into
play, because there are no gods.
