One of Hardee's most recent television commercials is what one media
watchdog group is calling the latest example in the restaurant chain's
noticeable history of using sexual imagery in its advertisements. The
American Decency Association is urging consumer action to help put an end to
the use of such sexually provocative ads to sell hamburgers.

The ad, described by American Decency Association President Bill Johnson as
"erotic," features a scantily clad waitress at a bar and grill. Also in the
commercial, he says, is "a young man that is just really looking, gazing at
her 'parts' and .she's being accentuated in a very pornographic or indecent
way."

That technique, Johnson observes, follows the pattern of previous commercial
campaigns for Hardee's and Carl's Jr., both owned by CKE Restaurants. The
use of erotic imagery and sexual suggestion in the restaurant's commercials
includes using Hugh Hefner as a spokesman in 2003; and depicting a
mechanical bull ridden by a scantily clad female in television ads the same
year.

Also, in 2005, Paris Hilton was shown in Carl's Jr. commercials wearing
revealing clothing and making "sleazy movements and contortions" while
washing a car. "The pattern for the Carl's Jr./Hardees restaurants," Johnson
notes, "has been one of very over-the-edge ads," which is he and the ADA say
Americans need to complain to CKE President Andrew Puzder about these ads
being used to market "family restaurants."

Johnson says Hardee's owner CKE Restaurants initially had some response to
the onslaught of viewers complaints in 2003, but have since continued to go
over the edge. The ADA spokesman is urging pro-family consumers to contact
CEO Andrew Puzder to try to get this kind of marketing stopped.
