Harry Potter is Gay! |
Author says Harry Potter is gay
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A British cleric turned top-selling
author of supernatural children's novels was thrown out of a school
where he was delivering a talk after he told pupils that Harry Potter
was "gay."
Reverend Graham Taylor, who penned the novel "Shadowmancer" which,
like the tales of the famous boy wizard created by J.K. Rowling,
centers on witchcraft and battling evil, got his marching orders after
teachers accused him of homophobia.
"As for Harry Potter, well, he's not the only gay in the village," the
former Anglican priest told children at Penair School in Truro,
southwest England, referring to a catchphrase from the popular British
comedy TV show "Little Britain."
He also described the villains in Rowling's blockbuster series as
"wimps" and called TV "crap" compared to books.
Teachers brought Taylor's talk to the 12-year-olds on Tuesday to a
premature end, saying the youngsters had become "excitable," and asked
him to leave.
"We were very disappointed to have to curtail a visit from Mr Taylor,"
the school said in a statement on Thursday.
"The seven staff from the school who were present were very
embarrassed and uncomfortable with what was being said.
"The remarks that were made were thought by the staff to be offensive
and were well below the standards that we expect of responsible and
thoughtful adults working in our school."
Taylor, whose book topped the UK book charts for 15 weeks with the
film rights also sold for £2.25 million ($4 million), was unrepentant
and accused staff of censorship.
"It was a joke; a joke from 'Little Britain' that the children would
know," Taylor was quoted by newspapers as saying.
"I didn't set out to offend. I'm a priest and I'm very careful about
not offending people."

LOL - clearly he's not that careful! Isnt it ironic that teachers and kids
find a'gay' joke about Harry Potter offensive but a clergyman doesnt.
But maybe not when you remember that approx a third of the clergy
in the Church of England are homosexual.

OMG!!!! Does this mean that Cho Chang and Ginny Weasley are (gasp!)
crossdressers? I think not.
It's easy to conclude from this article that the former Anglican Reverend
has either never read the HP books, or he has a personal agenda to push.
Anybody who can read (and are therefore capable of reading the HP books)
can see that Harry isn't gay, that at least with Cho he goes through
Typical Teenage Angst about asking her out. He even has the decency to
question the propriety of dating/loving his best friend's sister.
I am not anti-gay, and don't see a problem with including a gay character
in the HP books (though with one more book to go, it's really a non-
issue). But to flagrantly disregard the obvious, and in this case the
very obvious (not speculative like Lily/Snape or other theories), is just
too much.

Harry Potter books have sickening displays of heterosexuality in them,
straight "snog" in a number of the books and children are clearly being
recruited by these straight portrayls into heterosexuality.
Straights do that, you know--cleverly insert straight messages into
children's literature and media.

Nah 'cos the character in the television programme "little britain" says
"I'm the only GAY in this village" he doesn't say poof or homosexual or
anything else he says he is GAY. The running joke being that the
'village' is a hot bed (fnar fnarr) of homosexuality and the one that
keeps saying he is the "only gay in the village" is the only one who is
homophobic.

Is it homophobic to suggest that Harry Potter is gay, or is it
homophobic to throw someone out of a school for suggesting that Harry
Potter is gay? It would seem to me that it is the *teachers* who are
saying that it is the ultimate, most unbearable, insult to be called
"gay". What's so horrible about saying someone (even a fictional
character) is gay? Even if they're not? For all we know, JK Rowling
might write a nice coming out for him in the final book. I think the
school doth protest too much.
