Has it always been thus |
Is it me or are there so many more programs now questioning the religious
views of christians.
In the last week I have seen (UK Sky) the Judas gospels which dont exactly
plead for the Pope's right to fame,
nor it would seem does it argue that the bible as we know it supports the 2
billion or so adherents to it.
A program called I believe Jesus christ which argues against ressurection
and suggests Jesus was married with 2.4 kids
Disciples... contending that all they did was argue among themselves
Da Vinci.. tho debunking most of the book allows for Jesus to be married or
at least father a child
Pilate... was a strong man ( one who would never have allowed a normal
'burial' for our mate jc)
Dawkins..gets the best out of the unthinking fundies but seems to lose his
own composure.
The shroud... carbon dated to 12/1300 but not good enuf for the TRUE
believers.
Does Sky/Discovery etc have an agenda? I hope they do but I dare say I'll
miss songs of praise.

I don't know and I don't see this as a problem.

Absolutely they have an agenda, PROFIT.
I've noticed more and more programs over the last few years which deal with
Christianity in a more historical light. Even a lot of the ones that support
some of the beliefs at least ask some questions.
The obvious fundy answer is that the EAC owns the Nielson corporation but I
suspect that mainstream American Christians are far more liberal in their
beliefs than what the people here want us to believe.
More than 72% (147,520) of the people in the Chico and Paradise, CA area
didn't claim a religion in the 2000 census and Paradise is noted for it's
church on every corner.

Of course, the agenda is profit, keeping up mysteries as long as
possible. It does not do a TV company any good to destroy belief in
Bigfoot, UFOs, ghosts, the Loch Ness Monster, conspiracies, astrology or
anything of the sort. Keep rehashing the same story every few months or
years in perpetuity. Nobody ever made a fortune selling a book or TV
program on the world's 20 great solved mysteries.
The Turin Shroud will never be comprehensively debunked. Nobody will
ever shut the file on Jack the Ripper, Lizzie Borden, JFK or Jesus Christ.

my brother tells me just last week one of those "educational" networks ran a
story on the shroud of turin and never once
mentioned it's less than a thousand years old. go figure.
but if they did mention it's all *****, then in a year or two, they
wouldn't be able to make another special on the shroud of turin (like they
did with this one), so your point is right on the money, pardon the pun.
