He is NOT a harmless nut! |
Cornelius Horan, the ultimate religious nut of the day, has ruined a
man's chance -- probably his only chance -- of winning an Olympic gold
medal because he wants people to hear that he thinks the world is coming
to an end.
This isn't his first time jumping into a sports event to "spread the
word." He also ran onto the track of a Grand Prix race, running in the
way of cars going near 200 mph.
My question is why wasn't this person put away at that time? Is it
because the authorities figured that a Christian nut isn't really a
danger? Was running into a race track, where he could have caused
several deaths, not dangerous enough to get him put away for the sake of
safety?
What will he have to do before he is taken out of circulation? Cause the
deaths of two or three dozen athletes and bystanders? Start using
explosives to get attention for his message? What?

Careful. Be *Very* careful here.
And by "Careful" I mean "Specific."
The parallels between such religious "nuts" and political
"activists" -- the kind which will be crawling all over NYC
very shortly -- can not be escaped.
Any law that puts this kind of disruptive "nut" in prison
will just as quickly place anyone the people in power
label "nut."

He was put in prison for 2 years after the Grand Prix incident. You can't
give someone life imprisonment for running out onto a race track.

Actually, it was only 2 months. He told the court he had run on to the
track to "promote the Bible."

Oh, thanks, I must have mis-heard. I've looked him up, and it was the
British Grand Prix. Seems strange that they would have treated this as a
criminal offense and not a psychiatric case. In the US he would likely have
ended up under observation until such time as he was deemed sane enough to
return to society. This can end up being a life sentence, depending on how
dangerous the person is to himself and others.

No! In the U.S. insanity like that gets you elected as president.
You then can give life sentences, or worse, to others.

He must have got out pretty damn quick, because I heard that too place
in 2003. But I don't think he should be put in prison at all. He should
be comitted to an asylum to protect himself and others. At least until
psychiatrists are reasonably sure he won't pose a serious danger.

Horan is a religious terrorist just like Eric Rudolph, James Kopp and Osama bin
Laden. The only reason he escaped through the security net at the Olympics is
because they were all focusing just on Muslim terrorism and because of that
they allowed a known Christian terrorist to slip through the net. If they
didn't have the double standard, this would not have happened.
If Horan had been Muslim, no one would be calling him just another nutjob and
rightly so, but since he's Christian he can get away with pretty much anything.

If the guy believes that the world is ending soon, then why not put
him in some hospital (an asylum) until the end of the world? Sounds
about right.

The guy is a loon. I don't why he wasn't locked up after the first
incident. I certainly hope he gets put away now, for his own
protection as well as public safety.

Stab Monica Seles, or whack Nancy Kerrigan with a tire iron,
