Correct
You don't have to like Rush, you don't have to agree with Rush. But at least
recognize he did come forward and admit it, and he didn't wait for a year to
come forward.

Correct

You don't have to like Rush, you don't have to agree with Rush. But at

least

recognize he did come forward and admit it, and he didn't wait for a year

to

come forward.

I agree, for the most part. One can condemn or sympathize with him over his
drug abuse, because he presented so many ambivalent facets. I mean he
didn't just fess up without having the s--t hit the fan first. By the same
token, he didn't deny what he knew to be a harmful truth. He was
hypocritical about drug use, an error compounded of course by his
larger-than-life personallity and statments on the subject. But then again,
his use wasn't exactly recreational. That's to say, I don't think that they
were euphoria-inducing or mind-altering drugs (please correct me if I'm
wrong). He began using them under a doctor's care, but did the wrong thing
when he broke the law to continue using them.
Personally, I like the guy and wish him well. I often disagree with him,
and oftentimes he can be more than unfair, but that's his shtick. He
certainly was the genesis of a genre of wildly popular commentary, for
better or for worse. I look forward to him completing his rehab.

I am not denying that, and as I said before I am not saying Rush doesn't

He fessed up, and that is all that matters I guess. But to sit here and

to ignore the fact that we just had a president sitting in the oval office
who lived his entire political life dodging and denying is sheer hypocrisy
at its finest.
Look, if you are going to criticize Rush for that, fine. But be willing to

Living as I do in California, I didn't elect anyone to be mayor of
Washington.
What we're giggling over is Rush's rank hypocrasy. He's been
screaming "lock them up" for yeears, no he seems to think that
apologizing is enough?

He admitted nothing. He was cornered like a rat and under investigation. For
him to have "admitted" it, would have shot his show to pieces, since he has
a 'lock em up' attitude about people with illegal drugs.
If the man has legitimate pain and needs medication for it, give it to him.
I've had back serious pain and it's hard as hell to live with, let alone try
to function day to day.
Rush had spinal surgery. I'm sure what he goes through would make my torn
muscles feel like a hang nail. I don't believe in "pain management." If it
hurts, medicate it....better living through chemistry.
It is his *hypocrisy* that makes me want to puke.

No you don't. He spent a week trying to figure out how to weasel out of
the whole thing. When he realized that the evidence against him was too
strong (i.e. she had tapes), then and only then did he admit what he
did. Before that, he spent years talking about the evils of drugs while
taking them by the handful. He's a hypocrite and a liar, pure and
simple.

Limbaugh says he's addicted to painkillers

You have to at least admire him (somewhat) for admitting this.

No you don't. He spent a week trying to figure out how to weasel out of
the whole thing.

Like Clinton spent a few years trying to weasle out
When he realized that the evidence against him was too

strong (i.e. she had tapes), then and only then did he admit what he
did.

Like Clinton
Before that, he spent years talking about the evils of drugs while

taking them by the handful.

You are comparing pain killers to street drugs now
He's a hypocrite and a liar, pure and

simple.

And you are a liberal, go figure

Exactly. Clinton was a lying hypocrite scumbag, just like Limbaugh. Glad

That sounds like some of that fuzzy relativistic liberal thinking I keep
hearing about. It's wrong to buy a bag of "hillbilly heroin" oxycontin
pills off the street. . .unless you state that it's for your back :)

So there's a difference between morphine the painkiller and morphine the

I'm not. However I used to work for a medical school at a large
university. My mother was head of the detox and alcoholism units at the
Washington Hospital Center. My father was a physician. None of them could
tell me the difference between painkillers and drugs that "alter the mind."
In fact, excepting some drugs that act purely as anti-inflamitory or
something and therefore halt the triggering of those things which lead to
pain, little is available to treat pain without "altering the mind."
"Altering the mind" seems to be essential in modifying people's perception
of pain. We are not yet at the point where we can "block" pain, although
we are trying. About the best we can do so far is alter the perception of
pain, which, of course, involves drugs that "alter the mind."

Now come on Galen. If some teenager buys oxycontin off the street so
that he can get a buzz, he's a junkie and a criminal. When Rush Limbaugh
buys oxycontin off the street so that he can alleviate the pain in his
<insert body part here>, then he's just a poor victim of circumstance.
What bugs me the most is that Limbaugh got sympathy for his hearing
problems a year ago, and it now looks like he brought the problems on
himself, as two of the drugs he was taking by the handful had hearing
loss as a side-effect.

The whole situation rather reminds me of the last days of Elvis. He used
to fly into a rage if any tabloid suggested that he was on drugs, even
though he was taking barbitruates by the handful. Because those don't
count.
The biggest difference is that Limbaugh's housekeeper turned over the
evidence to the tabloids *before* they found him dead on the toilet.

You have to at least admire him (somewhat) for admitting this.

I have little use for him or his political views. But, with a
daughter who is battling drug addiction, I recognize how hard it
is to admit to having a problem, and volunteering to go to a
treatment center. Most people will deny the problem, even when
facing the results of their drug use.
And the problem with becoming addicted to prescription pain killers,
especially oxycontin, is that they are legitimately give to the
person addicted, and the addiction sneaks up on you. It isn't like
he was out hanging with his buddies and decided to try this drug
just to see what it was like. It isn't like he was out trying to
get high everynight. While his addiction does make it seem like he
is a hypocrite, it is a common problem with oxycontin. OxyContin is
good for chronic pain, but it is highly addictive. I saw a show on
TV about it. And it detailed how ordinary people with some kind of
chronic pain would use it, and become addicted.
