Hey! J Young! |
When are you going to get it through your thick skull that the United
States is not founded on christianity. I defy you to find one law or
passage in the Constitution that says otherwise. Even if some of the
founding fathers WERE christian, that proves nothing. They still went
out of thier way to make the government secular. The United States is
therefore under no obligation to adhere to christian doctrine about
homosexuality, abortion, or anything else.
There is nothing immoral about homosexuality. If you think that there
is, please describe what. Saying that the bible says that homosexuality
is wrong is NOT an explanation of why it is wrong. Keep in mind that it
is not unnatural either, since it occurs in nature. Even if it were
unnatural, that still would not explain why it is wrong. Cooking food
and wearing clothes are unnatural. Hell, computers are unnatural and
you obviously have no problem with them.
Do you also have a problem with people wearing clothing made of two
different kinds of material? The bible condemns that too. And don't try
claiming that is a metaphor. If that can be a metaphor, then anything
in the bible can be, including the stuff about homosexuality. If you
are going to claim 'old testement' on that, then what about stoning to
death disobedient children? Jesus himself condemned a town because they
didn't put that particular rule into practice.

Who ever said anything about the U.S. being founded on Christianity? That
doesn't mean that Christians are barred from government or can't let their
Christian upbringing be their moral compass. Homosexuality, abortion,
ect..., are not mentioned in the Constitution either

Please don't preach to me about the Bible. I don't quote it nor do I make
reference to it. I admire people who know it and actually live it. Myself, I
was raised Catholic and most of my religious knowledge was learned from the
nuns. I do know right from wrong, however, and I know that practicing
homosexuals are at a far higher risk of disease and pre-mature death than
homos who abstain. How is that my business? Higher taxes and higher health
insurance rates.

I find it very curious that (in Western civilization at least) most of the
time, atheists are far better versed in the biblical texts than Christians.
It's my opinion, that for a typical individual, it is NECESSARY not to have
read the bible, except for the 'good parts' in order to accept it as the
foundation of their beliefs. The nasty bits are either glossed over,
ignored completely or some attempt at a rationalization is made.
I do know right from wrong, however, and I know that practicing
homosexuals are at a far higher risk of disease and pre-mature death than
homos who abstain. How is that my business? Higher taxes and higher health

If you want to ban homosexuality because of economical/health-care reasons,
you better be prepared to ban any other 'risky' behaviours, such as:
- poor diet
- lack of excercise
- smoking
- driving
- flying
- etc.
By the way, there'd be a lot more tax dollars to go around if the church
paid thier fair share.
I encourage you to read the bible with an open mind, in all of it's glory
and then do some soul-searching. Your moderate stance against homosexuality
would become the same as those 'God Hates Fags' sign carriers if you really
did read and believe the bible. God hates a lot of things it seems. If I
may borrow from one of your own subject lines: Why is God always so
pissed-off?

That doesn't mean that Christians are barred from government or can't >let their Christian upbringing be their moral compass.
No ones ever said that. If Christians wouldn't keep trying to enforce
their "moral compass" on everyone else, it wouldn't be an issue.
Interestingly enough, I don't need a 2000 year old book to tell me when
I'm doing something that hurts somebody else. What does that say about
those who do?
I know that practicing homosexuals are at a far higher risk of disease >and pre-mature death than homos who abstain.
Practicing homosexual couples are at no higher risk than heterosexual
couples, when both couple abstain from sex outside their relationship.
The problem is that society equates homosexuality with promiscuity,
which is just wrong.
Higher taxes and higher health insurance rates.
Are you calling for a ban on tobacco, fast food, alcohol, or guns?
These cause a lot more premature deaths than buggery. Are you against
anal sex between heterosexual couples? If homosexual couples cause
disease, by your assertion, then heterosexual couples are just as
guilty.

has ever showed support for you, not even the wackiest talibans on this

That doesn't answer the question. What exactly is immoral about
homosexuality? Is the answer mired in bigotry, or the appeal to
authority?
Saying that the bible says that homosexuality

Wrong. ONly man makes a conscience and conscious decision to do so.
Animals (like dogs and monkeys) exhibit homosexual tendencies just like
humans do. This is proof that homosexuality happens in nature and is by
definition, natural. What's unnatural is a group of religious jackoffs
proclaiming it unnatural because it grosses them out.
