High Court: Skakel Verdict Will Stand |
You just know that Teddy is sweating; thinking about how someday it may be
*him* sitting in a cage for the murder of Mary Jo Kopechne.

The Supreme Court on Monday let stand the murder conviction of Kennedy
cousin Michael Skakel, who is serving a prison term of at least 20 years.
The justices declined, without comment, to take Skakel's appeal of his
conviction in the beating death of his Greenwich, Conn., neighbor, Martha
Moxley, 31 years ago when the two were teenagers. Skakel, a nephew of Ethel
Kennedy, was convicted in 2002.
Now 46, Skakel is serving 20 years to life in prison.

competent a drunk driver as is GeorgeW.

The details aren't known. The police report was destroyed. What little
evidence that still exists indicates that it was a case of failure to stop
at a stop sign resulting in her impacting the other car and causing a fatal
injury. No indication of intoxication exists - but then no evidence ruling
it out either. The point is that as Laura's case was settled long ago, so
was Ted's.

Bullsh*t. The Police report is publicly available.

(snippage)

Note that this was in 1963, long before MADD scare. Tests were not
made, but police claimed (in the report) that nobody was drunk at the
scene. At the time, cop's own nose was probably the most important
breathalyzer.
Couple little details about Laura's car incident not usually mentioned:
*This incident happened in 1963. She *met* W in 1977.
*Laura's parents were Democrats. Admittedly conservative democrats,
but democrats nevertheless.
*She was hardly anybody at the time. No political pull or reasons to
"get her off" for anybody. (Unlike Ted, born in Kennedy clan and
Senator at the time of Chappaquiddick incident.)

"Ted" was 37 years old and Senate Majority Whip at the

No, he's not.
Skakel was a murderer, Ted was just young and stupid.
"Ted" was 37 years old and Senate Majority Whip at the
time of the Chappaquiddick incident. I don't think you
can excuse his actions with "young and stupid".
why would you want to? in fact, why would you raise the issue of
excusing him and then respond negatively towards your own issue.
I didn't raise the issue, james - Sanders did, when he claimed
that Ted was "just young and stupid".
I'm questioning the idea that he was either young, or stupid.
He was 37, that's not young. He was successful in political
office, he wasn't stupid. Attempting to say that what happened
in 1969 happened because he was young, or stupid, is ridiculous.
I believe ted has long been though of as the least bright kennedy,
although he has done a terrific job in the senate for several decades.
Then again, leaving someone to drown and not telling
anyone until after you've contacted your lawyer isn't
something I can think of any excuse for.
so now who are you talking about?
The Hero of Chappaquiddick, james. Don't be obtuse.

Nope. The death was ruled accidental long ago and the case closed.
You'd need new evidence that overturned the original verdict.
On the other hand, perhaps the Texas authorities can look into the
amazing coincidence of young Laura Bush killing her ex-boyfriend.

Michael Skakel committed murder. Ted Kennedy, IF the facts are what
everyone "knows", committed 2nd degree manslaughter at most. If the
facts are what some rumors claim, he committed "having bad luck". But
whatever the facts, if he's charged with murder he'll walk, so he'll
never be charged with murder.
