Historian Extraordinaire -- Rick Warren |
Watched 'Meet the Press' with the incomparable 'Tim Russert'.
Co-guest and Mega-Church pastor, Rick Warren asserted at one point that
Hitler, Stalin, Mao and perhaps another 'atheist' were responsible for more
deaths than all of the religious wars and nefarious activities **combined**.
The comment went unchallenged by the other guest, Newsweek Managing Editor,
Jon Meacham (who I have a great deal of respect for) *and* Tim.
Assuming the named figures were true 'atheists'. What does that say about
all the Christians that surrounded these hideous characters (or members of
some other faith that portrays itself as 'moral and ethical) and said, in
effect, 'You betcha, boss!!!' when ordered to take part in depraved
activities?
Let me guess. Everyone of the people who 'went along for the ride' with
these grotesque characters were either *all* 'evil' (and they *would* be
that if they were guilty of 'going along' with the obscene behavior)
atheists, or 'helpless' to do anything about it. Let's see, say 4000
'Christians' for every 1 atheist (just to throw out *some* kind of ratio)
and they couldn't have made some real tasty rat food -- really, *really*
quick of those diseased individuals? Hah!!
Has anyone made a 'scientifically' true assessment of that charge. I'd love
to know where Rick Warren got his 'data' to assert his claim on so honorable
and esteemed a show as 'Meet the Press'.

And, curiously enough, the solution is not to develop a rational basis
for morality, but to turn to patently false ideologies, which have
incidentally made similar moral failures.
Gah, I'm getting really frustrated with the stupidity of our culture's
discourse.

The answer is obvious. Hitler, Stalin, and Mao had twentieth century
weapons available and the religious fanatics of the past did not.
Imagine the carnage that would have happenned during the crusades or
during Europe's 17th century religious wars if the combatants had
possessed planes and bombs and missles.

Meet the Press is not so praise-worthy these days. Tim Russert often
serves as a lackey for Republican and conservative guests, while being
neutral to hostile with Democratic and liberal guests.

I saw that. I was wishing that they had someone like Dawkins or Sam
Harris on the show to show Warren why he was full of it.

It would be more appropriate for MTP to be on the Fox, make that Faux,
News channel.
