But the Post also reports: "Many recycled jokes about the film, the most
popular being that it ought to have been called 'Bareback Mountain' -
'bareback,' in gayspeak, is a word for unsafe sex."
Only in "gayspeak"? Since when?
And what kind of homosexual anal sex is ever safe - even with a condom?
The Post also reported that this film is the story of "two vagabonds whose
lifelong affair begins in Brokeback Mountain on a chilly night in 1963. Then
they part ways, marry women who don't know their secret and have children,
only to reunite four years later with a deep, fiery, longing kiss that is
arguably the most passionate man-on-man kiss to have been put on screen."

Any sex is discretely filmed and shows just enough so you get an idea
that they are doing it. It isn't "glorified" or "glamorized" in any
way because the film is about interpersonal relationships, not about
sex.
And what kind of homosexual anal sex is ever safe - even with a condom?
Anal sex with a condom in 1963 sounds pretty safe to me (which was
when the story was set). Anal sex with or without a condom will quite
likely be pretty safe one to five decades from now (longer if we are
unlucky), depending on the rate of progress the biotech industry
makes.
How can I possibly resist seeing this inimitable osculatory foreplay to

Let me assure you that I shall resist.
I saw the film recently. Did I miss something? What you people are
ranting about has nothing to do with what is in the film. It is
basically a story about two people who fall in love but are forced
apart by social conventions. You'll find similar plots in various
books and plays written over that past 4000 years - all the changes
is the social constraint that keeps lovers apart. In _Romeo and
Juliet_, it was a family feud. In this film, it was societal
prejudices. And Romeo and Juliet was far more passionate. :-)

anal and oral sex amongst consenting, adult heterosexual couples to
what homosexual men do to each other is not a proper comparison in
classes of behavior. One might just as well compare a doctor performing
sugery to save a life and a murderer eviscerating someone for all they
resemble each other in purpose and intent.

one must recall that no one knew of aids in 1963 when the initial scene
took place and even 20 yrs later when the affair was going on not too
many were aware of aids due to our wonderful secretive presidents
trying to keep it from becoming a crisis.
And though I can agree with you about it not seeming so moral, take the
whole context into play.
many men who are married have a desire to be with a guy rather than a
woman but due to a society who threatens people with their lives, or
social excommunication, can you blame them for sneaking around? I would
never condone a married man having an outside affair but most likely,
these guys never thought it was possible to live a life that they
should have lived.
and ultimately, we saw the result at the end of the movie...
sad but very pointed movie...a must see to break cultural
ignorance...of course its gonna get nasty reviews by conservatives who
dont like the fact that people are finally starting to realize that
many gay guys are moral people and good citizens overall...
