Homosexuality issue will always bring out tensions in society: RAdm
Lui
By ***** Yeen Nie, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 23 May 2007 0607 hrs
SINGAPORE : The issue of homosexuality will always bring out tensions
in society, says Minister of State for Education Lui Tuck Yew.
And this is why, he adds, it is important to allow the people to come
to their own conclusions about the matter.
Rear-Admiral Lui made this point when he was asked about homosexuality
at a dialogue session at the annual Pre-University Seminar held at the
Nanyang Technological University.
600 students from 26 institutions are taking part in the event.
RAdm Lui said: "We can't be stiff-necked. We need to be open to ideas
but we have to come to our conclusions through the framework in
Singapore. That's why it is important to have our own deep convictions
and beliefs."
He added that he does not subscribe to the theory that it is a
"medical condition". "Do you excuse paedophiles or psychopaths because
of a medical condition?" RAdm Lui asked.
RAdm Lui said: "To me there are certain norms in society. And before
we make major shift of those norms it is important that we sit and
deliberate, and think through it carefully and move at a pace that
society allows us to move.
"It does not mean that we should not try to reshape the thinking and
so on and so forth, but we can only move at the pace at which society
allows us to move. That's my own personal thoughts about it, and I
don't think... certainly... I am not ready to move and I do not think
a major segment of society is ready to move". - CNA/de

They believe in invisible magic sky pixies; this brings into question their

Clue in, fruitcake, nobody cares if you want to believe and practice - as
long as you don't try to inflict it on *us*. What you do in your bedrooms
and living rooms and houses of worship is of absolutely no concern to us.
When you start doing things which *do* affect us, the story is a little
different.

You do realize that not all who are religious, are "bigots"?
Then again, you will never see the abolishment of religions in your
life time or mine anyway.
As one who strongly believes in God, I call you on your own bigotry
and remind you...
Let he who have not sin, cast the first stone.
Religion begins the bigotry-spewing.
No, "Man...begins the bigotry-spewing".
Religion begets (there's a good religious word for you!) bigotry by
encourages and promoting hatred of those not "of the faith."
We're reacting (and fighting!)
against it. Religion belongs in the depths of its Hell.
And all you are doing is showing your own bigotry.
If you all want a blood-bath, keep fighting...eventually that's what you
will get when you push a person so far.
Christianity has certainly started enough blood-baths over the
centuries: pogroms against sundry groups:Jews, gays, witches, etc.

It would be a blood-bath, if you and other atheist wish to suppress others
from excercising their God given AND constitutional right to worship and
practice his or her religion. What do you expect people to do when they
start getting pushed up against the wall? Just take it? No, that's not
going to happen. Those who wish to abolish religion, would be facing a
fight they will never win.
It's obvious that those who wish to abolish religion do NOT value our
constitution at all. There is a little thing called the 1st
Amendment...something about not prohibiting. You might want to read up on
it.
Oh, and this thing about doctrinaire demands on their lives..half of you
don't even know what that means and those who say religion is being forced
upon them...do not even know what the word force means.
As far as "atheist and humanist" wanting to live peaceably...what's peacable

That's not peace. That's a DEMAND on their lives.

Osprey is out to lunch again. Nobody has been talking about abolishing
religion by prohibiting it, and the people world wide who are the least
religious have more important things to do. See
<http://pewglobal.org/reports/display.php?ReportID=167> and in particular
the chart
<http://pewglobal.org/reports/images/167-2.gif> which contains a scatter
diagram showing the importance of religion in various counries versus
the country's wealth. While the U.S. is an outlier, the overall trend
is that the poorest countries tend to be the ones that value religion
the most. Religion is simply bad for your wallet. :-)

Clue in, fruitcake, nobody cares if you want to believe and practice - as
