How can Jesus be a man AND God at the same time? |
How can Jesus be a man AND God at the same time?
How can God who is both all-powerful, all-knowing and powerless,
ignorant at the same time?
Can a person who is both white and black at the same time?
Can a person who is both male and female at the same time?
Can a person who is both married and a bachelor at the same time?
Can a person who is both short and tall at the same time?
Can a person who is both fat and thin at the same time?
Can a person who is both rich and poor at the same time?
How can God be both man AND God at the same time?
There are a number of situations where the two are definitely mutually
exclusive, at least in a modern Western understanding of it. For
example, one of the major points in the understanding of humanity is
the concept of temptation; humans are temptable, and can either
overcome temptation or submit to it. God is not subject to temptation.
Into which category does a God/man fall, then?
Or, better example: immortality. Man can die, but God cannot. Can a
God/man die? There are other examples, too, of course, that's just
what popped into my head.
Explain to me how God can become human. I assume there's no need to
point out the "dramatic" differences between being the CREATOR and
being the CREATEES. By saying his nature doesn't change is saying he
doesn't actually become human. What is the value of Jesus if he was
not actually human in every sense?
The idea of a God/man is an oxymoron. The Christian creeds (as far as
I can tell) don't just say that Jesus looks like God from one side and
looks like man from another. They seem to insist that Jesus *is* God
and Jesus *is* man.
It is contradictory (not just paradoxical) for a being to be
human and God (finite and infinite) at the same time.

Heh. Well the technical theological term for this kind of paradox is
"mystery" - which is to say that mainstream Christian theology holds
that people are of themselves incapable of discovering the answer save
that God tells them. And given that there is no God, it seems the
answer may be a long time coming...

The Arian Christian controversy that began with Bishop Arius in the 4th
century was sparked because Arians said, "Since the Son of God was
begotten, he had a beginning." They said, "Since the father was
unbegotten and had no beginning the son and the father could not be
equals".
In an age of great illiteracy, there is also the issue of how legends
and stories evolve in their journey from one place to another. In time
the original stories can be altered significantly.
We know that the Gospels were written many decades after the supposed
time of Jesus and that should make anyone suspicious about the their
veracity.

About 2.4 generations, based on a life expectancy of a little over forty

The mind boggles at the discrepancies as the fables of the time were
handed down, mainly by word of mouth.
Folks who's lives are driven by the bible are really in need of medical

We don't know, never likely will and yet we know, based on scripture,
that He was both God and Man at the same time.
Basically, your understandable question cannot be answered to any
logical satisfaction by us.

We are asked to justify these frightful passages, these infamous laws of
war, because the Bible is the word of God. As a matter of fact, there
never was, and there never can be, an argument even tending to prove the
inspiration of any book whatever. In the absence of positive evidence,
analogy and experience, argument is simply impossible, and at the very
best, can amount only to a useless agitation of the air. The instant we
admit that a book is too sacred to be doubted, or even reasoned about,
we are mental serfs. It is infinitely absurd to suppose that a god
would address a communication to intelligent beings, and yet make it a
crime, to be punished in eternal flames, for them to use their
intelligence for the purpose of understanding his communication. If we
have the right to use our reason, we certainly have the right to act in
accordance with it, and no god can have the right to punish us for such
action.

You OBVIOUSLY have no appreciation for 3 of God's characteristics:
1. Omnipotence - God can do anything.
2. Omnipresence - God is all places at the same time
3. Omniscience - God knows everything.
And I believe those 3 characteristics of God, characteristics that are
UNIQUE to God, answer ALL your questions.
Can a person who is both white and black at the same time?
Have you heard of racial mixing? Is a man born of a white father and a
black mother white or black? He is both.
