How Christians administered justice when they controlled it |
<begin quote>
The Barbarians conducted trials by compurgation, that
is by jurors swearing sacred oath's as to their belief in the
accused's guil or innocence. Christendom adopted the
system, eventually replacing it with an "alternative that
tapped even more into the supernatural": trial by ordeal.
This method also originated from German traditions
(possibly by way of India) involved referring disputed
disputed questions to the judegement of God, whole
micaculus intervention could be counted on to reveal the
truth. An ingenious varieties of ordeals emerged: trial by
fire; trial by cold water..."
<umquote>
from a review in this mornings Guardian (30/4/2005) of
a book by Sadakat Kadri entitles "The Trial: A history
from Socrates to OJ Simpson".
Is this the way things will occur should Christian succeeed
in ever controlling the judiciary again? Is quotes from
the Bible just the beginning of that campaign?
After all the above (stupid) logicmust seem very sensible to
to modern US style Christians.

I have often needed micaculus intervention from the divine chicken, but
seldom received it.
