Object: How do you know that the Bible is true? - Concluding ...Part 16
How do I discover the TRUTH?
Every person, so said mathematician Blaise Pascal, has a God-shaped void
in them. Billy Graham says in his sermons that no matter where you are
in life, without God, you will know that something is missing. Of all
creatures, God gave man alone the ability to seek ultimate meaning.
Every man or woman at some time must come to grips with what he or she
believes.
We all believe in something. Not believing in anything is believing
in something, though it may be incorrect. Scripture itself instructs us
to test all things (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Truth is there to be
discovered based on the strongest available evidence. Fear may be
keeping us from Truth—fear of facing one's failures or a needless fear
of a changed life. We must examine whether we are throwing up an
intellectual smoke screen to keep from confronting the real issue—our
sin before God.
Most of us at one time or another have experienced the uncomfortable
feeling of Christian views being pushed upon us. In this essay, we have
tried to avoid that and instead present an introduction to Christian
evidences and opportunities fairly for your consideration. As R. C.
Sproul says, if Christianity is not true, you should feel sorry for us
Christians, not get angry with us!
The evidence of the person of Jesus Christ demands a verdict. The
challenge is to take the first step and learn the basics of the
Christian faith. Then you will have a more informed basis for judging
Christianity.
Look up the Scripture passages indicated throughout this essay. Here
are more helpful resources, each of which is well documented. These
resources are the primary references for this essay. The points
presented can be explored more deeply in the pages of these books and tapes.
Most of the books are available at Christian bookstores. Perhaps,
set a goal to read one book a month. Examine for yourself what has been
the most influential movement and way of life in all of history. And
joining a Bible study group in a church that professes the historic
genuine (biblical) Christian faith can be exceptionally rewarding.
Christians fully acknowledge that we cannot by our own reason or
strength alone believe in Jesus Christ. It is only by God's grace that
we can come to faith. The arguments and evidences will not be effective
unless God's Spirit overcomes the natural rebellion in our hearts.
You can be certain that God loves you, holds you accountable, and
has a wonderful plan for you (Psalm 139:16, Proverbs 16:9, Romans 8:29,
Ephesians 1:11, 2:10).
Invite Jesus Christ into your life. Confess that you are a guilty,
rebellious and helpless sinner. Let Christ fill the emptiness in your
soul. Ask him to save you and to lead you in a new direction. Whatever
your past, be assured that God's loving grace will surround you. Then
when death comes, it will be a doorway to eternal joy in heaven with God
(John 3:16).

That's because beauty is only skin deep. Ugly goes all the way to the bone.

Scripture itself instructs us
to test all things (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Truth is there to be
discovered based on the strongest available evidence.

How would one discover the truth about whether anyone has seen God?
Which of these verses is the strongest evidence?
I have seen God face to face ... -- Genesis 32:30
No man hath seen God at any time ...-- John 1:18
How about the truth about whether God is omnipotent? Which of these
verses is the strongest evidence?
.... with God all things are possible. -- Matthew 19:26
.... The LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the
mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley,
because they had chariots of iron. -- Judges 1:19

(John 3:16).

Which heaven? The 1st? 2nd? 3rd? 7th? Some other?
I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago---whether in the body I
do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows---such a man
was caught up to the third heaven.
St. Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:2
the Hebrew word for "heavens" or "sky" appears only in a plural form:
shamayim, implying a multiplicity of heavens. According to one legend,
the Israelites who assembled at Mount Sinai to receive the Torah were
treated to a glimpse of all seven heavens opened up above them. The
Jewish mystical tradition, as it is revealed to us in texts dating
from just after the Talmudic period, turned the concept of seven
heavenly levels into a key focus of its speculations.

Surprisingly, despite the difference viewpoints in the Fathers and in
the NT, Orthodox theologians seem to have reached an almost universal
consensus on the nature of Heaven and Hell ...

In a message sent 'round the world, Gospel poured fuel on the fire with
the following:
....

Every person, so said mathematician Blaise Pascal, has a God-shaped void
in them.

And Augustine said of mathematicians:
"The good Christian should beware of mathematicians and all those who
make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that
mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the
spirit and confine man in the bonds of Hell."

Billy Graham says in his sermons that no matter where you are
in life, without God, you will know that something is missing.

Yup. The mythology.
....

As R. C.
Sproul says, if Christianity is not true, you should feel sorry for us
Christians, not get angry with us!

Well, as a matter of fact I DO feel sorry for you.
