The huge benefits of GM are being blocked by blind opposition

Many green activists oppose GM crops on principle. It is difficult to
understand what the principle is, since they do not campaign against
the production of drugs by genetic modification. Yet the same
technique is used to transfer a gene from one species to another to
make human insulin for people with diabetes, for instance, as to
modify a GM crop.
By what principle is it right to make better drugs to protect us from
disease, but not to modify plants to make them resistant to insect
pests? Why is there such a violent reaction against the genetic
modification of plants?

There's a difference in farming vats of gene-spiced bacteria for a chemical
byproduct and introducing GMO's into our intricately interdependent
ecosystem. Also, long-term health risks of consuming GMO's and the
aforementioned drugs are not known, and with no labelling of GMO foods
in the marketplace, consumers are deprived of much of a choice in the matter.
The FDA has even cracked down on "No GMO's" labelling of foods produced
without bioengineering. They assert that there is no difference, despite the
apalling lack of evidence in support of this view. Don't take my word on it, though.
Google yourself silly.
