UK sailors captured at gunpoint

HMS Cornwall
Commodore reacts
Fifteen British Navy personnel have been captured at gunpoint by Iranian
forces, the Ministry of Defence says.
The men were seized at 1030 local time when they boarded a boat in the
Gulf, off the coast of Iraq, which they suspected was smuggling cars.
The Royal Navy said the group was on a routine patrol in Iraqi waters and
were understood to be unharmed.
But Iranian state television quoted the Iran foreign ministry as saying
they had illegally entered Iranian waters.
The Associated Press news agency is quoting US Navy official, Commander
Kevin Aandahl, as saying that Iran's Revolutionary Guard were
responsible...

They could try getting the facts, like where the ship was.
Y'know, facts. Those things that you don't let get in
your way.

They were in Iraqi waters, by the sound of it, but belligerence and
threats probably won't get our sailors back safely.

Belligerence and threats hell. Why haven't they already sunk the
entire Iranian fleet?

Well, I must admit I sympathise with the motives, but if we did that,
they would probably torture and kill our sailors.

They might do that anyway.

Yes, but if we do anything rash, they are much more likely to. The
first priority must be the welfare of British sailors.

I agree. For the time being, we have to see if the Brits can recover them.
It would be a bad mistake for them to grant the Iranians any concession,
such as an exchange of prisoners, &c. I hope that they are able to bring
enough diplomatic pressure to bear on the Iranians to do the right thing for
once. If the Iranians do harm or refuse to release those sailors, I think
that the Brits and her allies have ample justification for a military
response. Not just for this act, but for the continued provocations,
military aid of our enemies in Iraq, sponsorship of worldwide terrorism and
continued development of nukes which are both illegal and under no
circumstance should be allowed to have.

Which of course the Brits never do, eh?

Can I ask what this has to do with atheism?
