How you'll know the surge is working |
The sure sign that the surge is a success will be when the Democrats switch
from trying to stop it to trying to take credit for making Bush do it.

LOL, I challenge Fredo to define 'working'. Does it mean that the
civil war stops permantly? Does it mean there's no more terrorists?
Does it mean that the bombings stop completely?
I predict that no matter what Fredo comes up with, in one year he will
have totally repudiated that he ever said such a thing and call people
names when they quote his original definition of the 'surge working'.

I guess we better pull out now.

Sounds awfully useless. Somebody should tell Bush that the grand

So that's it? Nothing about what happens in Iraq? Ok, but I would have
thought that we might get some clues from Iraq. So what about that
op-ed piece you posted? This is actually important, not a chance for
some silly partisan attack: how can we know if the surge is working?
What actual things are you looking for? The immediate drop in attacks
is not, in my view, much of sign of success. It is more a sign of good
organization and control (a very important characteristic) on the part
of the "opposition" in Baghdad. I am less happy with a well organized
opposition. This response also suggests to me that the supposed
retreat of al Sadr may not be all that significant: someone seems to
have good operational control.

The sure sign that the surge is a success will be when the Democrats
switch
from trying to stop it to trying to take credit for making Bush do it.
We'll all be sure to watch out for your "sign" Fredo. You've been right
about so much in Iraq so far, why should we doubt your prognostication now?
I'm still trying to think of something the neos have been right about...

They certainly were dead on target that they could openly and
blatantly steal billions of dollars, right in front of the American
people, and get away with it. No bid contracts that had all oversight
and profiteering penalties removed were just the start. Now they just
move the money to the off shore accounts with no expectations of any
projects being started, much less finished.

Well, yes. But that wasn't a stated goal. And not, really, a neocon goal.
The actual neos are the worst kind of ideologues. They seriously believe
their version of reality to the point of being delusional (just watch
Ledeen speak sometime, you don't usually see that look in the eyes outside
of street people who are arguing with lamp posts).
Cheney isn't actually a neo. He's just out to get whatever he can grab...

Comedy Central, perhaps?"
How many Friedmans until that time, Fred?
