Hypotheticals |
A QUESTION FOR ATHEISTS WHO HATE CHRISTIANS:
If you were stranded alone in some highly remote area and a car came by and
stopped. Two men get out of the car and approach your disabled vehicle.
Would you prefer that these men just came from a Bible study or a local
gathering of atheists?
A QUESTION FOR ATHEISTS WHO LOVE ATHEISTS:
If virtually everyone in the world relinguished their belief in a "higher
power" and embraced atheism; do you think the world violence and local crime
rates would go UP or DOWN?

Either. What's your point?
A QUESTION FOR ATHEISTS WHO LOVE ATHEISTS:

Down, automatically. The same would be true if people
universally embraced any ideology.

Except that atheism is not idiology; just as asymmetry is an absence of
symmetry atheism is an absence of theism: "Atheism is characterized by
an absence of belief in the existence of gods." --

Don't know about the crime rate, but deaths caused by religious factions
warring over whose boogey man is the one and only true boogey man would
dwindle to ZERO. On any given day in history, violent deaths attributable to
religious differences outnumber crime related deaths 99:1.
Nice going you Christian shitheads.

But is an ideology!
Definition: ideology
n 1: an orientation that characterizes the thinking of a group or nation

I couldn't imagine why it would make a difference to you.
Is this why bible thumpers are constantly duped by "religious"

Down. Definitely down. Without some external God represented

A local gathering of atheists naturally, adult men who go to bible study
worry me.

Down, it's not the fear of some fictious egomanical sadist that keeps me

In principle I'd prefer them to be atheists, since this would imply that
they are rational, sane, educated people, whereas whoever belongs to a Bible
study group is no doubt a deluded moron and a freak. However, if we consider
the entertainment value, the bible freaks would rank higher, because bible
freaks, being bible freaks are usually hilarious.

I dont know about local crime rates, but it goes without saying that world
violence would certainly go down, since a very large number of violent
conflicts are caused by religious enmities.

Considering how many theists come in here and say that without Big Daddy
Jehova keeping them in line they would be mass murderers and rapists, if
their minds suddenly snapped into adulthood and realised their sky pixie is
a pack of *****, the former theists would be the most dangerous people

A local gathering of atheists, of course. The type of Christian who
joins a Bible study group is generaly the type that's prone to
proselytize. I already have car trouble. I don't need a couple of

I'd say if anything it would go down some. Atheists don't have a devil
to blame for our screwups or a god to forgive us for them. We have to
assume the responsibility for our own actions. This tends to make the
average atheist more "moral", whatever that is, than the average
Christian.

Atheists. See Numbers 15:32-36

Down, obviously.

A QUESTION FOR ATHEISTS WHO HATE CHRISTIANS:
I only need a couple of fingers to count the number of people I
'hate'...

So long as they aren't *police*. [Where the f*&^ did I get a car?!
Do I have a licence too?]
I used to hitchhike the few hundred miles between my home and my
parents'. I've been given lifts by: an army reserve major; a police
detective on his way to work; guys I went to school with
transporting a rent-a-car for the company they worked for; a
naturopath with a few hundredweight of fresh, damp, seaweed (kelp)
listening to tapes about how much a stool should weigh; a member of
the legislative council with a Simon & Garfunkel fixation; a guy
whose daughter had been permanently confined to a wheelchair in a
car accident, who seemed very concerned to be sure I wasn't the
same kind of person who did 'this', .... I've never been given a
ride by anyone whose religion became known to me in the trip.
[The guys with the rental car were Catholics, their mother taught
me in grade 3... the MLC was from my ex-parish, his kids went to
school with my sibs & I]
=> I couldn't care less, unless I'm going to be stuck with the same
droning nonsense for several hours.
[These days I catch a bus, the only annoying passengers I've
encountered have been a pair of young christians sitting near me
and babbling ***** the entire time. Loud enough to distract me
from Clive Barker's _Galilee_]
A QUESTION FOR ATHEISTS WHO LOVE ATHEISTS:
I love a few more people than I hate, but I still wouldn't caim to
love someone simply by virtue of being an atheist.
If virtually everyone in the world relinguished their belief in a "higher
power" and embraced atheism; do you think the world violence and local crime
rates would go UP or DOWN?
No opinion => there are many, many, views that are compatible with
atheism, so there's every possible violence/crime rates could go
either way.
Have Fun

Well, I don't hate christians but I'll answer anyway.
I wouldn't be especially bothered either way, but on
the whole I'd probably prefer that they were atheists
because if they gave me a lift, it would give us something
to talk about. Which is nice.

I think they would stay at the exact same level as before.
