Object: I Am Now An Atheist - My Brief Testimony Followed By A Question
About 18 years ago (at 20 years of age), I got "saved" in the Christian
sense of the word. Then, after about 10 years of bible study, I
determined that Calvinism was the most highly supportable theological
position I could adopt. Next, I completed my degree in computer
information systems and learned a lot about grammar and punctuation
along the way. Combining my newfound language and logic skills with my
"no real fear of hell" from Calvinists caused me to fearlessly
undertake an objective evaluation of the bible's claims. Needless to
say, a few critical books later (such as The Christ by John E. Remsbert
and Atheism - The Case Against God by George H. Smith) and I knew that
their was absolutely no way that a supernatural being had anything to
do with the bible or any holy book for that matter. That's my
testimony in short.
Now, for my question:
My wife has never been a truth seeker. I have always been one. I have
been digging for truth my whole life, thus this leads me to my
question: I need to figure out what to do with my "wife situation."
She is very unsupportive toward my journey of truth. She's not so
much verbally negative about my journey as she is just plan indifferent
and silent about it, which to me indicates a lack of genuine humanity
at some level. No doubt, the fear of god has gotten the best of her.
Please share your words of wisdom with this Atheist newbie. I am sure
a lot of the veterans in this group have encountered similar
situations. All assistance is welcomed.
Also, if you know of a good way for me to get connected with some local
Atheist in the San Diego area, that would be great.

Humans are basically arrogant - here's where they differ from other mammals,
but not in many other respects. We pay a price for having freak brains, at
least with his long neck the giraffe reaches food that others cannot get,
but with our brains we wreak havoc, often in the name of imaginary gods. If
we are not doing that we spend time trying to demonstrate how much smarter
we are than others.
What we say and mean is more important than how we try to say it.

Atheist newbie.
I've been an atheist for so long I've forgotten there could be such a
thing. ;-)
Congratulations on your decision.
With regards to your wife, I'm sure you will understand that she might be
feeling a little insecure at the moment, and depending upon the level of her
indoctrination, may even think that you're secretly sacrificing small babies
and offering them to the devil.
On the whole though, as she seems pretty calm about it I wouldn't worry too
much about it.
She may be concerned that your relationship with her will change.
You need to reassure her that the only relationship which has changed
recently is yours with God.
He is the one who has been dumped, not her.
Make sure she knows that.
When she eventually feels comfortable about your new way of thinking she may
even be curious about joining you.

Also, if you know of a good way for me to get connected with some local
Atheist in the San Diego area, that would be great.

Do you really need to contact others about your new found atheism?
Most atheists don't really give much thought about their stance once decided
and not many club together as we tend to be independent and free thinking.
For those that do need to talk to other atheists, this newsgroup is usually
more than enough.
Drop a post for the attention of Michelle Malkin and get yourself an atheist
list number if you want to.
Once again, congratulations and welcome to the newsgroup.

Actually, God found him, and all of us, but he runs away. His scope of
rejection is superficial at best, and he has obviously avoided all learned
knowledge that would give him reason to reconsider. Unfortunately, when one
attempts to view the bible as an inerrant storybook, it leaves many to wonder.
The big bang, supported by science, is a great reason to entertain a supreme
being. Before there was nothing, then an infinitely small point of infinite
density mass appeared to exploded outward to form our universe, including all
mass, energy, void, and time. Ask an atheist author to reject God as the
answer.

All it's really good for is to join others in a fable that God is a
myth. All evidence demands the existence of God. There is NO
evidence that God doesn't exist.

Good work Duke, this atheist newbie he is so daft he can't even
remember he's an atheist or not. He needs to find the Lord God and
Jesus is a good place for him to start out, let us pray.

Followed by:
" Youre a God damned Liar duke, everything you say about God is a
blasphemy. Why dont you shut the ***** up? you're simply a atheist sock
puppet pretending to be a theist."
Make up your mind, hypocrite.

Congratulations on your decision.

Why?

He has rid himself from a particular variety of superstition, which
takes honesty and courage.
Making such changes in your life is not the "easy path".
Some people see honesty and courage as virtues to be praised.
If someone overcomes an addiction to drugs I would likewise offer my
congratulations for the same reasons.
Mark.
