Good for you! I'm in the middle of my 2nd week and have lost 6 pounds so
far. Gave up red meat, anything high fat, sugar, junk food and my vino
<sob!> - Sticking to chicken, fish, veggies, fruit, whole wheat bread, and
lots of water. This is the best I've felt in a long time (with the
exception of tonight's stomach ache - that baked eggplant didn't sit too
well)

I hope you're not a yo-yo dieter like I've been, on and off, never
sticking to it. After I got married a few months ago I realized I
wasn't living life to it's potential, and that all the chocolate,
chips and soda in the world couldn't cure my appetite for going out
more, choosing my own wardrobe, instead of buying stuff because it fit
right (I tell ya, being six and a half feet tall and broadshouldered
in addition to being overweight is a nightmare! I have to shop 4XXL+
sizes lol tho sizes are smaller in europe still, than in the US from
what I've read)... my motto now is "I'm never going to weigh as much
as I do today ever again..." until I reach about the 200 mark.

I don't really understand the deal with red meat. It's not that
calorie-rich is it? I've been eating plenty of fat and red-meat and
even lots of carbs, but keep the total ammount of calories down to
about 1500, which is a drastic cut considering I need about 3700 a
day, and I used to eat 5-6000. It also explains why I'm losing a ton
of weight, but luckily I'm only 24, and my body seems to be handling
it well. I actually feel terrific... so much so I think I'm gonna walk
up and down all 12 floors of my building a few times today :-)

Sadly, since I was 13 ;)

Actually, the main reason why I'm sticking to this particular diet is
because I have high triglycerides and border-line high blood pressure. I DO
feel better :)

Unfortunately, that seems always to be the final result with
overweight people... I also suffer from extreme obstructive sleep
apnea, 116 breathing stops per hour... in other words, if not for my
age, I would have died of a heart attack years ago. I thought I'd beat

Um, I'm not that overweight - I still fit into my size 8s (Just want to get
back to my size 6s). In my case, I believe my high triglycerides result
from my body heading towards menopause (I've had symptoms for the past two
years) as well as enjoying an indulgent and unhealthy lifestyle.

Oh, sorry for assuming. I'm not sure what those sizes are. I'm hoping
they're not inches, hehe. We measure waist in inches and I don't even
know my size because I haven't dared to try on a pair of jeans or

My mom thought she was too, but it turned out she had diabetes! She's
50 and menopause is still nowhere to be seen, hehe.

Yeah, 116 times per hour of a minimum of 10 seconds each... luckily
mine are fairly short, but it still strains me greatly, and my sleep
is interrupted about 2 times per minute (and I stop breathing for
about 30 minutes of every hour though luckily not continiously LOL).
Basically I hadn't hit REM sleep in over 7 years..... no wonder I was
on anti-depressants, eh? I've quit them completely now, and I feel
awesome, and my energy is slowly returning to me.

Isn't it though? But, it's fun and I enjoy doing it, so what the hell ;)

I'd pay good money just to watch that! LOL

Nothing wrong with eating good food, assuming you're normal-weight.
Just have to control your portions and match input/output :-)

He was terribly skinny when we started dating 14 1/2 years ago. He's almost
6' 4" and I think he was about 160 lbs. at the time. Now he's a little over

Exactly. I've always had issues with food, giving into cravings, eating
even though I'm not hungry, etc., etc. However, this is now a health issue,
not just one of vanity. So, I'm really not doing it for me - I'm doing it
so my 6-year-old daughter will have her mother around for a long time ;)

I would not call 195 to 205 fat, not for a 6' 4" man, I was 210 to 220 for
more then 30 years, same height as George, and lots of people called me
skinny. Right now though I need to drop about 10 pounds and get a bit more
exercise. I am 220 now, but some has turned to fat, I barely fit into a 35
inch waist jeans and I should be wearing 34 waist.
(It is weird, I joined the Navy in ¹72 and weighing 135, wore the same 34
waist right up to the last year. Same size shirts as well. Even at my
heaviest, 235 pounds, I fit the same clothes. Of course it would explain why
when I go swimming I "float" about 3 feet under water.)

See, my husband's father died at 52 and I want him to be around a lot longer
than that. He didn't seem too thrilled at my initial suggestion that he
join me eating healthy, but he's gotten into it. However, we have some
friends coming over with their kids for dinner tonight and I know it'll be

I'm adopted and only know history on my birthmother's side. Thankfully,
it's good. I wish I knew my birthdad's, but she refuses to give me info on
that. Hopefully there's nothing awful running in that side of my heritage.

I guess I'm like him. Even before I found out how sick I was, I was

Ouch...
http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.html
Try to find out how many calories you burn in a regular day, and how
much you eat. A kilogram of fat (2.21lbs) is 9000 *very roughly*
calories. But obviously losing weight also depends on other factors,
like the composition, fibre, thermic quality of the food etc.
Y'know, if you stop eating fat when you're dieting, you *will* hit
that plateau very early, because your body will think you're starving
and will start shutting you down.

I actually didn't lose that much weight the first week and I figured it was
because I was taking in too little calories and hardly any fat. It's up to
8 pounds so far - which I know is a lot for only two weeks, but that will
taper off as well.

Roly-poly is a Brit pudding, sweet dough and filling rolled in
a cloth, tied at both ends and steamed or boiled, I'm not sure
which, actually. Anyway, the dough swells as it cooks, and the
cloth gets really tight, sort of like a size 22 trying to
squeeze into a size 14. ;)

Hehe, I'm lousy too, but I reckon it's weight lost divided on original

Well, according to my scale this morning, I've lost 9 pounds. If I divide
my original starting weight by that, I come up with 18.2 %. I don't think
that's right.
