Object: I must be doing something right
After looking around, trying to come up with "birthday lists", my two
daughters decided there wasn't really anything they needed, so they asked
their friends to bring items to donate to, San Diego County's children's
center.
My daughters have everything they need, but they don't have cell phones,
IPods, video games, computers, or any of the hundreds of extravagances that
most of their peers have. Yet, rather than ask for themselves, they chose
to give to others.
Neither child has ever set foot in a church. Neither child has ever
prayed. Neither child needs the fear of God to know right from wrong.
I must be doing something right.

Actually, that's another difference between our parenting style and the
Christian version. Our kids don't need to fear God *or* fear us. We
don't hit our kids. Violence has never seemed necessary.

My husband and I are the same way. We've never even considered hitting our

Oh my goodness, I am moved beyond words. Here I thought I had the most
generous "golden child". I don't know how old your children are, but this
sort of thing is rare among adults, much less children. Fanstasic. This
is yet more evidence that people don't need a religion in order to be a good
person. None of my god-soaked nieces or nephews would ever consider being
this generous.
