I put this in the roman-catholic NG... |
I have talked to my Parish Priest about building a Cathedral in the
borough of Blackburn with Darwen, England
Of course the plan is only a dream at the moment, as it has not gone
further than my Priest, an architect and myself but the first question
is finance and where we might get the funding from
Also we will need the permission of at least the Bishop of our Diocese
but I believe I could put together a sustainable package for a
Cathedral in this great borough that I live, work and worship in
Your thoughts please ?
Would you take a trip to England to visit a Cathedral ?
and would both Catholic and Interfaith masses appeal to you ?

What a huge waste of money! If you love jeezus so much, why don't you and
your fellow sheep build hospitals? Housing for the homeless? Feed the
hungry? Endow education? The world and your "great borough" does not need
yet another useless palace of brainwashing, to con the simple minded into
being satisfied with the misery of their lives. And why in hell did you drop
this fatuous drivel into an atheist group? Do you imagine we want to
contribute?

Why would it?
Something that would appeal to me is if you decided to build a center of
learning, it could have a museum, library and a lecture hall or two, where
real scientists could hold lectures in proper science to the public. A
place where people, everyone and not just professors and students, could
meet to discuss philosophy, science and other things, and in the library
and museum they could read and study. That is what the world needs more
than it ever needed yet another cathedral.

This is something I don't understand. They are so out of touch with
reality.

That's nice.

Not to mention the second question, "Why bother?"

Your thoughts please ?
Waste your time any way you like.
Would you take a trip to England to visit a Cathedral ?
No. I wouldn't I cross the street to visit a cathedral.
and would both Catholic and Interfaith masses appeal to you ?
This is "alt.atheism". I don't think any kind of mass would appeal to
us. Perhaps you should move on with your life, and leave this portion
of the internet behind.

Would I go to England JUST to visit a Cathedral? Goodness no - I would go for
the countryside and the pubs though.
and would both Catholic and Interfaith masses appeal to you ?
Um, hon, I'm an atheist. Guess what my answer would be ;)

Doesn't necessarily preclude enjoying a Mass though. I like a nice bit
of well done ceremonial, particularly if it involves a four poster
bed. Art for art's sake, you understand.

They could try selling indulgences again. You could spam newsgroups
for them.
