Object: I saw a ghost -- the supernatural
Okay, true story....
So I was sitting in front of the computer for some
time -- eyes focused on that same fixed
distance -- when I finally had reason to get up...
Anyhow, I stand up and I turn my eyes toward
the ceiling when I see this... this... *Thing*. I
don't know what to call it, this thing, but I
suppose some might refer to it as an "Orb."
It was small, round, white or translucent (don't
want to nail myself down here), and it was
floating just a short distance below the ceiling.
Was it smoke? a cobweb? I didn't know. Well,
I was reasonably confident it wasn't those things,
but what it was, exactly, I had no idea. I didn't
freak out though. I had a bottle in my hand (I
half thought to swipe at the object with my
bottle) but I instead decided to rest it down before
further investigating this paranormal event.
Oh. The bottle was partially filled with Power
Aid, in case you were wondering. Nothing
alchoholic
So, I put the bottle down to rest, turned back
towards my "orb" and it was gone!
Um, sort of gone.
It was no longer floating at just below ceiling height.
Instead, it was a small indentation -- a defect --
within the ceiling itself.
Ever see one of those 3-D pictures where there's
nothing but colors & shapes, but if you manage
to focus your eyes at the wrong distance a 3-D
image emerges? Here's an example:
http://www.cynical-c.com/archives/bloggraphics/candy.jpg
Anyhow, apparently something very similar occured
with me -- after staying focused at the fixed distance
of the computer screen for so long -- my tired eyes
managed to "see" the indent in the wrong place.
I'm sure the lighting & ceiling texture helped...
I wonder how many other ghostly apparitions have
resulted from such tired eyes?
Gotta wonder....

It was God's test pattern.

I find if very likely that ghosts "exist"....in the eye (mind) of the
beholder.
They sure don't need to be supernatural for people to have the
experiences they claim.

I remember as a kid riding in the family car. It had a fabric covering
on the ceiling with little holes evenly spaced all over it. I could
stare at it and after a moment it seemed to create a space into which
I could stick my hand and create an illusion that my hand had gone
through the roof of the car. Maybe your experience was a combination
of something similar and the act of standing up set up a situtation
similar to fainting and caused a slight hallucination, or maybe a
sleeper in your eye or something?...Sensory illusions are pretty cool.
I've also experienced waking up to silence and then become aware of
the radio slowly becoming apparent, it seemed like my sense of hearing
was still asleep and woke up after I was conciously aware of being
awake. Similarly I've awoke to the sensation of not being able to
move, and then regain that ability as my body catches up to my mind.

Ball lightening? I've heard of those in people's houses. Static
electricity builds up and glows.
So, do you believe in God now? ;)

I used to believe along with most skeptics, that ball lightening was a
myth, that is until someone managed to produce it using a surplus WWII
submarine battery. It was indepentently verifiable. It was not just a
tale told by people in the back woods, I changed my belief.
I wonder why the theists here cannot understand the ACTUAL relavence
of this statment?

No kidding. I came out of a college class (long ago) with the certainty that
we'd never be able to print holograms.
Today my wallet is filled with printed holograms. I had to change my belief.

I believe it's called an afterimage.
