As a sterile married man, let me assure that about 20% of human adults
do just that. They are sterile, gay, physically unable to procreate,
or just unable to find a partner. Yet humanity rolls on!
Marriage is about more than children. Not one state in our union
requires fertility or even the intention to have children as a
requirement for a marraige license.
Lesbians, however, can and do have children using donated sperm. Gay
men can adopt, or hire a surrogate mother. Methods also available to
sterile heterosexuals, by the way.

Marriage is about more than children.
Marriage is either about children or it is about less.
Not one state in our union
requires fertility or even the intention to have children as a
requirement for a marriage license.
And you mistook that omission to mean the ultimate purpose of marriage
was not about children. Just because things aren't spelled out in the law
doesn't mean they don't matter or that they aren't over your head. Those
things are not required simply because it is beyond the scope of the
government to say which heterosexual couples cannot have children. The case
of homosexuals has not been considered before nor should it be considered
now.
Lesbians, however, can and do have children using donated sperm. Gay
men can adopt, or hire a surrogate mother. Methods also available to
sterile heterosexuals, by the way.
All of which undermines the purpose of establishing biological
parenthood and in its place puts temporary guardianship which is not nearly
as important.
The confusion about the ultimate purpose of marriage comes from the low
regard it has received over the years.
