I thought this place..... |
Was supposed to be bout atheism...and all I see is 100s of religious
discussions and arguments. I think this place should be renamed Religious
Discussion.
Because Athiesism surely isn't happening here..

Unfortunately, unlike talk.origins, atheism provides very little
subject matter to talk about except it's opposition to theism.
Basically, I get the most satisfaction out of this group by
discussing the silly things that theists do and say.

Well, we keep getting religious people invading this NG trying to convert
us, or telling us how bad they tink we are.
Because Athiesism surely isn't happening here..
Sure it is. Keep reading. Atheism as a meaningful topic depends on the
existence of theism, and therefore atheists discuss religion. In daily life,
we are targeted by theists for proselytization, legislation detremental to
the lives of atheists is passed by theists, and in general there is a lot
coming from the world of theists that affects our lives. So topics of
discussion among atheists generally have something to do with the world of
the religious.
Atheism depends on the existence of theism to make it a meaninful topic.
There's a reason there is no such thing as a-leprechaunism: that's because
there are no leprechaunists (or, if there are, they sure don't make life
hard for the rest of us who don't believe in leprechauns).

you believe in God?" "Nah" "Me neither. I guess that makes us
atheists."
Pretty much everything after that is a discussion of religion, or
politics, or whatever.

I dunno. Generally, if they're polite and respectful of us (it's *our*
group after all), and seem genuinely interested in discussing it, as
opposed to just trolling, most people here will give reasonable, well-
thought-out answers. It's when they start displaying stupidity and
rudeness that they get blasted, usually.
