Ikal Ahau , yuck |
Ikal Ahau
Mayan (Tzotzil, classical Mesoamerican) [Mexico]
A chothonic death god with foul habits. A diminutive figure, he remains
in a cave by day, but at night, well it's just not nice.
At night, he wanders about attacking people & if you can believe it,
eats raw flesh. It's not know whether or not he uses salt or any other
condiments. Just to prove he plays fair, he also inhabits Christian
Church towers in Mexico, & probably is personified by the vampire bats.

Hm. Although I've read that they originated in the Caribbean, I wonder
if Ikal Ahau could be the inspiration for the Chupacabra myths:
