Baxter Inc. to lay off up to 4,000
Deerfield, IL, Apr. 22 (UPI) -- Illinois medical products company Baxter
International, Inc. of Deerfield said it will cut up to 4,000 jobs, the
Chicago Tribune reported Thursday.
Half of the job cuts will be in the United States, about 400 in Illinois.
The company has already closed facilities and slashed 3,000 jobs as part of
its strategy to stay competitive. Faced with heavy competition in the blood
products industry, Baxter will reduce its annual plasma production by
845,351 pints and close plasma collection centers. In 2003 it cut plasma
production by 1.27 million pints and closed 26 U.S. plasma centers.
