Object: I'm getting free food off the Scientologists!!
I had an e-mail from a very nice man from the local scientology centre
asking me if I was interested in any scientology courses.
Having no interest in that kind of crap, I asked him if the scientologists
ever got involved in charitable donations, considering they get tax
exemptions as a religious organisation.
I think I confused the guy a little.
Here's some excerpts from the emails between us.

Subject: Stephen, a way to handle traumatic experiences

Hello Stephen,

We get hundreds of people a week telling us about traumatic
incidents that they can't seem to get over. Anything from
death or loss of a loved one, a bad relationship, an
abusive childhood, accidents and so on.

Maybe you've tried different things to handle this and
maybe other self-help methods or books have made you feel
better - temporarily.

But it's still there.

Dianetics has been around for 56 years for one reason - it
works. It has helped millions like you discover the real
cause of their problems. And more importantly, permanently
get over them and move on.

Here are stories from six people who did just that:

Would I be able to use Dianeticism to help get rid of my overdraft?
It's really bothering me right now

Hi Steve,
I'm not sure I understand your question, overdraft on your bank account?

I'm sorry Patrick, what I meant was, that as a religious organisation, do
you ever become involved in charitable donations?
Lots of the other ones do.
I could really use your help at the moment!

Hi Steve,
Thanks for clarifying this and yes, I do know what you mean. We have a whole
series of downloadable booklets on one of our web sites to help people, as
long as you can read and apply the information in these booklets I think you
will find them very helpful for all areas in life:
www.scientologyhandbook.org
Let me know if you need anything else!
Best,
Patrick

Thanks for the link, Patrick, but when I was talking about charitable
donations, I was thinking more along the lines of cash donations.
Those downloadable booklets you sent are quite useful, but a cash donation
would really come in useful right now.
How much do you think you could let me have?
Anything at all would come in handy right now!
Regards,
Steve

I see what you mean, unfortunately I cannot help you there.
But I am interested to know why you are asking for cash donations? Are you
not employed right now?
Best,
Patrick

Well, I am in full time employment, but a little extra cash wouldn't go
amiss!
It would help to have a little bit of extra spending money on our holiday
this year.
I am sorry about the confusion- as a religious organisation I thought you
might have been in a position to help out with charity.
Isn't that why you are registered as a tax exempt organisation?
Where do all of your profits go if not to help the needy?
Not a criticism, just curious.

Steve

Dear Steve,
Yes, the Church of Scientology has many community outreach and charity
programs but these do not involve giving out cash to people, although food
and supplies have definitely been purchased and donated in abundance. One of
our largest programs is the Volunteer Ministers and you can see the web site
at www.volunteerministers.org We actually have the largest volunteer
disaster response team for any religious organization in the world and are
there on the ground helping the homeless, the needy, etc (911, Hurrican
Katrina, etc).
It's funny you ask because must Churches ask for donations from their
parishoners, not give them out to people, so I am not sure where you get
this idea. If you clear definition of the word "charity" it does not "cash
donation".
If you notice the hundreds of new Scientology Churches opening up around the
world each year, and the major community outreach programs we are involved
in (www.youthforhumanrights.org, www.twth.org, etc) then you will get an
idea of where all the "profits" go from our Churches.
And if you really ARE interested in Scientology and what we can do, I can
explain further, but the flow of your questioning so far has been a little
on the critical side, so I cannot really tell.
Best,
Patrick

I do apologise, it wasn't meant to be a criticism, just curiousity.
I would be quite interested in the food donations you have mentioned.
What sort of food is it, and which supermarket do you generally use?
We use Sainsbury's ourselves and Teso's now and again if the funds are
running a little low!
I do hope you don't buy from Asda, or (God forbid!) Aldi or anywhere like
that!
Perhaps you could send me a list of the food items available and I'll let
you know what I need.
Many thanks
Steve
His final reply...
Okay great, you can definitely contact the Volunteer Ministers for help on
this, just go to the web site I referenced below and fill out one of the
contact forms, or call the 800 number.
This is not something we handle from here, so I cannot help you with that
myself.
Best,
Patrick

Well , its's been fun jerking around this jerk for a while, anything that
keeps them busy is going to help stop them stealing from anyone else, right?
Notice how he was really interestred in finding out if I had an income or
not.
I guess the Church of $cientology aren't particularly interested in poor
people.
I'm just wondering what else I can do to keep this idiot dangling.
Any suggestions?

Yeah, tell him you've just won the lottery & if he then asks you for a
donation, tell him it was only for a tenner. In the meantime, you could
always nail him to the wall over their hypocrisy. Then ask him for
$cientology "financial charitible loan until you get your dole / welfare
cheque" to help with your drinking & gambling addictions so you can buy some
more booze / scratch cards. See what he says to that.

How about telling the guy you are waiting for a big inheritance, but
are hard up until then and then get him to do all kinds of stupid
cultish things to prove how sincere he and his cult are before you
will go to one of their meetings.
And helping you out with food and money in the mean time, would make
you most appreciative.
