In the News: Atheists go on the political offensive in God-fearing US |
From the article:

By Tim Shipman in Washington, Sunday Telegraph
Last Updated: 11:44pm BST 05/05/2007
By day, Joe Zamecki works as a landscaper and valet in Austin, capital
of George W Bush's home state of Texas, which is regarded by many
natives as God's own country.
In his spare time, however, he is quietly working to undermine the
dominance of America's God-fearing majority. He is one among a growing
band of "out" atheists, and wants a US that is "one nation under no
god".
On Thursday, while Christian Americans were celebrating National
Prayer Day, Mr Zamecki, the state director of American Atheists, was
leading a demonstration against the public display of the words "In
God We Trust" in the state legislature.
Atheist groups from Los Angeles to Little Rock observed a National Day
of Reason instead.
Groups including Atheists for Human Rights and Atheist Alliance
International - "Call 1-866-HERETIC" - are setting up summer camps and
an internet recruiting campaign.
Mr Zamecki told The Sunday Telegraph: "We are seeing support for
atheist groups grow. Those with no religious affiliation are the
fastest-growing group in America, more even than Muslims."

Notice the choice of words. Not 'God-loving', but 'God-fearing'. What
happened to the 'Love God'. Out on a pleasure cruise or something? Or do
American 'God-fearers' realize that there's not even an *imaginary* one of
those?
He is one among a growing
band of "out" atheists, and wants a US that is "one nation under no
god".
Well if 'He's' not 'real', why should *any* nation claim to be 'under' him?
On Thursday, while Christian Americans were celebrating National
Prayer Day, Mr Zamecki, the state director of American Atheists, was
leading a demonstration against the public display of the words "In
God We Trust" in the state legislature.
Do you blame him? How much 'trust' can you put in a 'God' who allowed 9/11
to happen? Oh that's right. 'He' couldn't prevent that or, say, the
Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, or the present Darfur obscenity from
happening for a very good reason: He's a made-up, make-believe 'God' who's
completely imaginary! Can't blame a deity for not preventing the horrors
mentioned when the deity doesn't even exist, now can you?
Atheist groups from Los Angeles to Little Rock observed a National Day
of Reason instead.
Sounds better than praising a 'God' who's imaginary and, therefore,
completely incapable of answering 'prayer'.
How many amputees do you suppose had their missing limbs supernaturally
restored to them soley through 'prayer' on this 'National Day of Prayer' do
you suppose?
Groups including Atheists for Human Rights and Atheist Alliance
International - "Call 1-866-HERETIC" - are setting up summer camps and
an internet recruiting campaign.
Mr Zamecki told The Sunday Telegraph: "We are seeing support for
atheist groups grow. Those with no religious affiliation are the
fastest-growing group in America, more even than Muslims."

There's not a speck of proof that a 'God' exists, let alone a 'loving' one.
If you want to believe in a 'God', believe in an incomprehensibly 'evil'
one. After all, who or what could be more 'evil' than the creator of evil?

There was a church in town by that name. I got a pic of their sign,
intending to label it, "A painful affliction, or a good idea." Don't
think I'd sell many in my area, though.

"Burning Bush" would be even better.
There was a church in town by that name. I got a pic of their sign,
intending to label it, "A painful affliction, or a good idea." Don't
think I'd sell many in my area, though.
Burning Bush? A good reason to have a Merkin!

Due, I think, (in no small part), to the likes of Sam Harris, Paul
Kurtz, Daniel Dennet, and dare I suggest: Richard Dawkins, et al.
