(AgapePress) - The president of Answers in Genesis says the Church
needs to reclaim ground that has been lost in the debate over
historical matters in the Bible. One way to do that, he says, is to
make radical changes in Sunday school curriculum.
Christians who want to sharpen their skills in defending against the
false teaching of evolution are getting some tips this week at a
conference in Florida. "Defending the Faith," sponsored by the
Christian apologetics ministry Answers in Genesis and hosted by Coral
Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, is a three-day
conference running through Wednesday (February 2). At the conference,
Christian teachers, pastors, and authors are addressiong a variety of
topics to help believers refute evolutionists and make solid arguments
for creationism.
Kicking off the conference was AIG president Dr. Ken Ham, who said the
debate over the accuracy of biblical history is the primary reason for
the cultural crisis facing the Church today. Ham accuses the Church of
essentially writing off such historical subjects as geology, biology,
and anthropology, saying those things should be taught by schools and
not in the church. Churches' attitudes that "we'll just cling to the
gospel," he says, have left schools open to teaching a humanistic
approach to the history of the world.

Didn't see any evidence supporting the Moses/Exodus fable . . . of course,
that's in Exodus, not Genesis, but still, you'd think if they had any
information backing up claims that the Exodus tale has historical evidence
to back it up, they'd parade it somewhere . . .

I think that the answer is obvious. One may just as well claim that the
Gilgamesh epic or the Iliad are 'historical' documents.

I'd suggest that the fact that a bunch of liars are trying to pass
themselves off as Christians is a reason for a cultural crisis in the
Church. The sort of dishonesty which Ham and his colleagues use to
promote their anti-science, political and pecuniary agenda undermines
the moral standing of all Christian churches.

Ham accuses the Church of
essentially writing off such historical subjects as geology, biology,

After who knows how many years of promoting Creationism this bunch
should have more to offer than refuting evolution. Why aren't they
actually researching Creation and giving us concrete examples of the
Creation?
Not a single one of them would preach or discuss the Bible without

without a drop of science.
Please, please why can't the actual, real scientists, who have real

There are actually several denominations called "Presbyterian" in the
USA, and they're all over the map theologically (though generally
towards the conservative side). Anyways, this sounds like the same
thing that's covered in the "D. James Kennedy" thread -- it's his
church, and he's the worst kind of ranting ignoramus.

As though the church(es) of today speak with one voice!

Christians who want to sharpen their skills in defending against the
false teaching of evolution are getting some tips this week at a
conference in Florida. "Defending the Faith," sponsored by the
Christian apologetics ministry Answers in Genesis and hosted by Coral

conference running through Wednesday (February 2). At the conference,
Christian teachers, pastors, and authors are addressiong a variety of
topics to help believers refute evolutionists and make solid arguments
for creationism.

They've got a long road ahead of them seeing that even a lot of major
religious colleges have little if any problem with evolution, at least
within the science curriculum.
My sister is a teacher at a local religious school (K-12). She
recently informed me that even at their level they teach evolution as
fact.
At least one school of thought seems to be that the students will
eventually be exposed to it later anyway so they might as well learn
it now and prevent a crisis of faith at a later time if they were to
otherwise believe that they had been lied to or misinformed about it.

Kicking off the conference was AIG president Dr. Ken Ham, who said the

They've got a long, unfriendly road ahead of them just within
religious institutions alone. Not only do they clearly not speak for
'the church' as a whole, this message of theirs will no doubt be
rejected outright by at least a good portion of them.
There are even churches out there that DO have a problem with
evolution but know that their beliefs are not honestly supported by
the facts at hand. If they are at all concerned about how they are
viewed by outsiders (read: potential converts) they have got to know
how ignorant this kind of stuff makes them look.
