In the News: Evolution furor heats up |
'Evolution furor heats up: Critics, including former President Jimmy
Carter, say state looks silly'
From the article:
-------------------------------
Religious leaders also weighed in on the controversy.
Pastor William Sheals of Hopewell Baptist Church in Norcross suggested
that a true Christian cannot believe in evolution.
He said evolution -- and creationism -- should be taught in public
schools to help students understand science. But don't remove the word
"evolution" from the curriculum and pretend that you're not still
teaching it, Sheals argued. "You're still teaching the fact that man
evolved from an ape."

If it is a fact, as he says it is, then why shouldn't we teach it?

I have a great idea...lets have Pastor Sheals debat Jimmy Carter. The
topic can be: "Is Jimmy Carter a Christian?"
I would PAY to see that!

I strongly advise viewing any such debate from a safe distance in case
there is a deity it very may well hurl down a blue bolt at Sheals the
moment he makes that claim.

I wonder if this guy ever stops to think that the reason that we can't teach
this stuff in the public schools is because only the "true" christians believe
it.

Many religious people struggle with basic biology , let alone
complicated stuff like evolution.

Southern Baptists at least.
Having grown up around Northern Baptists, the Amish, Mennonites, and a
host of other non-southern, fundamentalist religous cults, I can vouch
that your 'at least' is far too restrictive. I'd imagine you could have
also included the Hasidim and just about any other People of the Book, as
Islam would say.
