In the News: Film is heaven-sent promotion for Bible |
From the article:

The Sun-Herald
Church groups are planning to use the kind of blockbuster marketing
techniques usually associated with multi-nationals such as McDonald's
to take advantage of Mel Gibson's controversial new movie about Jesus
which will open on Wednesday.
Congregations around the state are expected to receive information
about the film this morning.
Already, an interactive website has been launched, with chat rooms,
downloadable flyers, images from the movie, posters and a computer
presentation for use by church leaders.
The film, The Passion Of The Christ has been given a strict MA 15+
rating, with a warning of "graphic violence", meaning children must be
accompanied by an adult.
In the promotional blitz, selected church leaders have been given free
showbags of CD-ROMs, souvenir programs, bookmarks, pocket Gospels and
advice on hosting discussion groups and theatre parties.

It is good to see religion finally being marketed as a product!!! Toby Mack
( from an unrelated christian t.v. commercial) had it worked out!!! But
seriously religion is a "meme" and this is only a self propagating action
from a quite a successful idea. Although I wait with bated breath for a
"bollywood" version of hinduism!!! Anyway does anyone remember "jesus christ
superstar"? For some of us that was a more gut retching production.
Alas poor Mel is being crucified by the "moral majority" , boo hoo, wake up
world and move on!! There is a whole world out there, with out guilt!!

Anyway does anyone remember "jesus christ

Actually, the 2000 production starring Glenn Carter, Jérôme Pradon and Renee
Castle (with Rik Mayall as Herod) was much, MUCH better than the 1973 version
starring Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson and Yvonne Elliman (with legendary porn star
Paul Thomas as Peter). It is a much darker and grittier version than the
"bright happy" 1973 film.
I'd still like to see a copy of the 1995 New Zealand version starring Jay
Laga'aia (Draco from Xena and Captain Tycho from Attack of the Clones). I have
heard it is very good but it is not available here in the US.

You'd think with God being almighty and all, he wouldn't need all that
help.
