In the News: Gideons want to reinstate handing out holy book in schools |

OTTAWA ? Gideons International in Canada wants to restore its practice of giving
out copies of the New Testament to students in elementary schools of the
Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.
The society's desire to offer the religious text to students in Grades 4 and 5
went before the education committee on Monday night, where trustees sought
information about the issue.
Provincial policy dictates public schools may sponsor the study of religion, but
not sponsor the practice of religion.
Over the 2000-01 school year, the board told its principals "that neither bibles
nor consent cards were to be distributed in schools," according to a background
document prepared for the committee. While never put in writing in a directive
to principals, the message was delivered at superintendent's meetings they
attend.
School board trustee Lynn Scott is proposing that the board allow schools to
distibute the New Testament again, as long as other religions are offered the
same right to advertise their holy book.

buddhist books, or just for the hell of it(literally), hand out some

Why not handout the Bibles before and after schools ourside the school
grounds? Or at malls where school children hangout or at church where
the families gather every Sunday?

I still think they need to hand out Hitchhikker's Guides to the Galaxy
instead. More truth in that book than the Bible, and doesn't try to
pass itself off as the gospel truth. :-)

I still think they need to hand out Hitchhikker's Guides to the Galaxy
instead. More truth in that book than the Bible, and doesn't try to
pass itself off as the gospel truth. :-)
Or maybe the Odyssey and the Iliad, or hell, the Aeneid, all 3 are
better reads than any of those books, well, except the Hitchhiker
series.
