In the News: 'Intelligent design' debate crowds school board election ballot |

DOVER, Pa. (AP) — On opposite sides of this rural community, two
billboards touting opposing slates of candidates for the school board
illustrate a deep divide over a recent change to the high school's
science curriculum.
One sign describes the seven sitting board members as "the INTELLIGENT
choice," a reference to a mandate for ninth-grade students to hear a
statement about "intelligent design" during evolution lessons in
biology class.
The other shouts, "It's time for a new school board in Dover!" on
behalf of seven opponents backed by a citizens' group that opposes the
policy on intelligent design — a concept that challenges the theory of
evolution by saying the universe is so complex, it must have been
created by an unspecified guiding force.
Tuesday's primary election promises to be a battle royal among 18
candidates evenly divided over the intelligent-design mandate, which
is the subject of a federal lawsuit scheduled to go to trial in
September. The field also includes two board members who resigned in
the months after the board adopted the policy by a 6-3 vote in
October, an apparent first in the nation.

What I'll never understand is what in the world "universe creation by an
unspecified force" has to do with evolution?
Evolution is not the study of origin of life or the origin of the
universe, so wtf is going on here? Have these people lost their minds?

1) They've never had a mind to lose.
2) Terminal ignorance and casual bearing of false witness.
Ignorant bronze age mindless cretins making educational decisions.
The irony is universe shattering.

What I'll never understand is what in the world "universe creation by
an
unspecified force" has to do with evolution?
..
They're eluding to the fact that the mechanistic nature of our observed
universe implies that there is a higher level force driving the
organization, order, and complexity of its systems toward a specified
"goal"... and this includes humans and evolution.
They want that force to be God, so they won't face up to the fact that
this kind of thing can also be explained without the need for
supernatural forces.
They're greatest success will be to create a new level of the same lame
controversy because there are a lot of sane people out there that will
associate the function of systems with what they percieve to be purpose
in nature. If a higher system drives the rest, then there is no
difference... from the perspective individuals, because your function
becomes your purpose in the higher level game.
..
Evolution is not the study of origin of life or the origin of the
universe, so wtf is going on here? Have these people lost their
minds?

With the current school board, it's "BenD over, Pa."
