In the News: Religious belief 'falling faster than church attendance' |
From the article:

Organised religion is in near-terminal decline in Britain because
parents have only a 50-50 chance of passing on belief to their
offspring, a study claimed yesterday.
By contrast, parents without faith are successful in producing a new
generation of non-believers, it said.
The report identified institutional religion as having a "half-life"
of one generation, as children are only half as likely as their
parents to say that it is important in their lives.
The generational decline is too advanced to reverse, the report
suggested, as the proportion of people who believe in God is declining
faster than church attendance.

Huh.....our local rag had this comment......
'Rev Eldon Phillips, spokesman for the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon,
said: "The results of this survey are a concern but we have seen many
surveys that show the opposite.
"I think it is still true that the vast majority of people in this
country still believe in God. It is a challenge for the Church to appeal
to them.
"In Swansea we have a number of parishes that have healthy congregations.
"It is clear that people of all ages still have a spiritual yearning.
"But we need to make religion relevant and interesting."'
Typical.

'Realism is seductive because once you have accepted the reasonable
notion that you should base your actions on reality, you are too often
led to accept, without much questioning, someone else's version of what
that reality is. It is a crucial act of independent thinking to be
skeptical of someone else's description of reality.'-

These are really good news! Praised be the Lord! I am glad to read

Yes it is, churches are rapidly growing redundant as people
increasingly turn their backs on religion.
There are exceptions unfortunately.

Indeed, the curiously named "Abundant Life Church" in
Bradford is expanding. Apparently people need tickets to get into
their warehouse like shed on Sundays and they want to expand the
place. Goodness only knows what dubious practises they get up
to in there. No doubt they practise bizarre meaningless rituals
and indulge in happy clappy activities in an orgy of self-induced
mass hysteria. Music seems to be an important element in the
'entertainment' I guess the seductive rythms is enough to
get them 'high'
Started by a single 'pastor' this dubious organisation has sprouted
branches in Australia and other countries rather like cancer
spreads round the body infecting and poisoning as it goes.
There is the inevitable nest of web sites and 'merchandise'
of course
I give them a wide berth of course and leave them to it.
Nevertheless they need constant watching as I am sure
it will not be long before they start trying to impose their
I am glad I don't life in Bradford they are giving the city
a certain noteriety along with the Mosques that are
springing up all over the place. Maybe the ABLC is
some kind reaction against the increasing presence of
Islam by the more intellectually challenged of Bradford.
