LOL! Exactly! A'Tuin doesn't mess around. I want to thank you and
Michael for telling me about the series. Pratchett is fabulous! I've
read five of his books and will shortly start on my sixth as soon as I
finish an excellent biography of Darwin, "The Reluctant Mr. Darwin" by
David Quammen. It explores not only how Darwin formulated his theory,
but goes into all of the internal and external conflicts that he went
through before and after publishing his works.

Now, that sounds like an interesting biography -
getting into the subject's fears, conflicts and
motivations. Too many bios simply state things
(he said this, she did that) without really saying
much about why they did these actions.

LOL!

Quammen is an excellent writer. What was fascinating for me was the
description of science in Victorian England as compared today. I get the
picture of all these highborn gents (no women) in their tweed suits
sitting around in their orate clubs, sipping brandy or port, and
discussing science and or philosophy. Most published one or two
important papers or books and then talked about it for the rest of their
lives. So different that the high pressure 'publish or perish' attitudes
of today.
Darwin was certainly a very complex individual. Not only did he have an
array of physical ailments, but he had a lot of trouble relating to
people. His shyness was one of the principal reason that he delayed so
long in writing his "Origin". If Wallace's findings had not pushed him,
he might not have published his theory at all.
This is a very good book. I highly recommend it.

So glad to hear you're enjoying the Pratchett! I recently read "Thud" and
loved it. I also saw "Hogfather" on TV recently! Was great :)

"Hogfather" was on tv? Was it on a local station? I'd have
loved to see that.

Me too.

All bow to the The Great God Om!
Yes, that turtle most certainly cares what it is called.

And it moves!

HERETIC!!

A'Tuin will get you for that!

A many footed suitcase will shove him off the
edge of the world. And, A'Tuin's elephants
will stomp him all the way down, too. Call the
Big Turtle by another god's name, and that's
what ya get.

LOL! Exactly! A'Tuin doesn't mess around. I want to thank you and
Michael for telling me about the series. Pratchett is fabulous!
I've
read five of his books and will shortly start on my sixth as soon
as I
finish an excellent biography of Darwin, "The Reluctant Mr. Darwin"
by
David Quammen. It explores not only how Darwin formulated his
theory,
but goes into all of the internal and external conflicts that he
went
through before and after publishing his works.

Now, that sounds like an interesting biography -
getting into the subject's fears, conflicts and
motivations. Too many bios simply state things
(he said this, she did that) without really saying
much about why they did these actions.

So glad to hear you're enjoying the Pratchett! I recently read
"Thud"
and
loved it. I also saw "Hogfather" on TV recently! Was great :)

"Hogfather" was on tv? Was it on a local station? I'd have
loved to see that.

I am downloading it now, and may choose to upload it to my website:-
if you are good at begging!

Beg! Beg! Beg!

Now on my "to do" list, for what that's worth!

Good! I saw that aDVD might be available, but as yet I can't locate the
source.

I'll have to clear some space on my website first.
The upload failed due to a lack of it.
Or see which of my other websites has room.
Or re-set up my webserver which I removed for reasons of a lack of
physical room in my office!
Housekeeping is in order...

I know what you mean. My study is starting to look like a junk
collectors shop. Old computers, spare cables and parts, stacks of books,
papers, boxes, all over. A number of trips to the dumpster are in order.

Can you fool allah da people allah da time? <g>

Idiots. If there were a god, why should it care
what
it's
creation
called it?

Rover? Alice? Heyzus?

Om?

All bow to the The Great God Om!
Yes, that turtle most certainly cares what it is
called.

And it moves!

HERETIC!!

A'Tuin will get you for that!

A many footed suitcase will shove him off the
edge of the world. And, A'Tuin's elephants
will stomp him all the way down, too. Call the
Big Turtle by another god's name, and that's
what ya get.

LOL! Exactly! A'Tuin doesn't mess around. I want to thank you
and
Michael for telling me about the series. Pratchett is
fabulous!
I've
read five of his books and will shortly start on my sixth as
soon
as I
finish an excellent biography of Darwin, "The Reluctant Mr.
Darwin"
by
David Quammen. It explores not only how Darwin formulated his
theory,
but goes into all of the internal and external conflicts that
he
went
through before and after publishing his works.

Now, that sounds like an interesting biography -
getting into the subject's fears, conflicts and
motivations. Too many bios simply state things
(he said this, she did that) without really saying
much about why they did these actions.

So glad to hear you're enjoying the Pratchett! I recently
read
"Thud"
and
loved it. I also saw "Hogfather" on TV recently! Was great :)

"Hogfather" was on tv? Was it on a local station? I'd have
loved to see that.

I am downloading it now, and may choose to upload it to my
website:-
if you are good at begging!

Beg! Beg! Beg!

Now on my "to do" list, for what that's worth!

Good! I saw that aDVD might be available, but as yet I can't locate
the

Chaos theory rules!
And the 2nd law of thermodynamics is confirmed yet again

Entropy in action!

A good title for a geeks only XXX movie!

Heh!

How 'bout "Entropy Does The Black Hole"?
